This $43 Million Contemporary Home in Miami Comes with a Jaguar and a
Yacht
A Miami spec home perfect for the most discerning of billionaires has hit the market for $36
million.
Developed by Douglas Elliman's Oren Alexander with his father, Shlomy Alexander, the home's
price could go up to $43 million or even more — that is, if you opt to also buy some of its jaw-
dropping extras, namely a 1948 Jaguar XK120, a 55-foot VanDutch yacht, and $1 million worth
of Minotti furniture.
The home, located in Miami's ritzy Bal Harbour neighborhood, was designed by award-winning
architect Chad Oppenheim, who most famously worked on director Michael Bay's mansion in
Los Angeles.
"Our main goals were to simply create the best lifestyle experience possible," Oppenheim told
Business Insider. "The Alexanders understood what we wanted to do. I'm happy they allowed us
to explore those possibilities."
The home offers more than 17,000 square feet of livable indoor and outdoor space.
You can't get much closer to the ocean than this. The home is situated on one of only two inlets
in Miami Beach. "The reason you have a sand bar and such clear water is that you're only 500
feet from the inlet," Oren Alexander told Business Insider. The lot has a sense of seclusion
thanks to its proximity to Oleta River State Park, where no further construction can take place.
Alexander and Oppenheim both said that they've seen a variety of sea life from the home's
backyard — everything from sting rays and sea turtles to manatees and dolphins. "It looks like
'Finding Nemo' out there," Oppenheim said. "From every room you can see gardens and water."
The home is the epitome of contemporary design.
"We wanted the ground floor to feel like the whole thing had been carved out of one block of
stone," Alexander said. The home has nearly 30,000 square feet of stone, which the Alexanders
traveled to a Roman quarry to get.
The floors are made up of individual slabs of stone. Each one has been "bookmatched", meaning
that they are lined up so that the veins of one piece continue on to the next.
The pool's floor is a single 75-foot piece of glass that was brought in by barge. "It's a real show-
stopper," Alexander said. The pool fronts the bay and the private dock, which can accommodate
a yacht of up to 100 feet long. If your yacht is bigger than that, however, it's no problem —
there's a private marina in Bal Harbour.
The buyer can choose to purchase the home furnished if they'd prefer. According to Alexander,
all of the furniture was designed specifically for the home by ultra-high-end design company
Minotti.
The deal extends to the home's artwork as well — the listing price can go up depending on the
buyer's interest in the pieces the Alexanders have curated with the help of a local Miami gallery.
One of those pieces is an Andy Warhol dubbed "Unknown Woman".
You won't find a single drain in this house. Every sink — in the kitchen, in the bathroom — has
been specifically designed so that the stream of water goes off the side rather than down a drain.
The home has eight bedrooms in total. Each light throughout the home has been recessed into the
ceiling.
There are also nine bathrooms and one half-bath. You could savor some ocean views from this
particular shower.
It also has its own luxe dressing area.
This bathroom has a glass shower and a stunning tub, where you can relax and watch the boats
go by.
The home is also decked out in modern smart home features, including mechanical windows that
can be opened with an iPhone.
For Alexander, working closely with his father was a dream project. The last time the father and
son team worked together on a spec house — at 3 Indian Creek — it sold for $47 million, a
record for Miami at the time. "My father has a great eye for design, but one of his greatest skills
is his ability to get people to work well, to get them to deliver the highest quality possible,"
Alexander said.
