We have officially made it through half of the school year! As we look back at the 2020 school year (or year in general), it is easy to focus on the negatives. I think that all too often, we let those negatives overshadow some of the great things that we accomplished. I could not be prouder of our students, our families, and the staff here at York. Our students have done an amazing job with their perseverance habit of scholarship. To the sudden close last year, to virtual learning, to mask-wearing, our students have handled each change and obstacle with grace. I am also grateful for our families and communities here at York. You have put your trust in us to keep your children safe and teach them the best we can. You've also rallied behind us offering us support in every way we could imagine. From our amazing PTO to fundraising, to reworking work schedules for your children, your encouragement has been appreciated. Lastly, our staff at York has been phenomenal. Teachers who have been teaching for decades had to completely change the way they've taught in the past. Staff members have worked hard to make new procedures and restrictions work. Despite all of this, they keep at it because they love our students and families and want our kids to succeed. My hope is that over winter break we can rest and relax. For many of us, this time is much needed. As we look back on the past year, take some time to reflect on how we have grown and adapted. We will see you again in 2021! I am excited and optimistic about this new year and what it will bring!

*DROP-OFF LINE INFORMATION*

As we start having more winter weather, we might not always be able to use the extra space we added to our drop-off line this year. In order to keep things moving as quickly as possible, we are asking that you continue pulling all the way up to the walk, but start to let your kiddos out of the car once you are stopped along the side of the building. Your child should then walk to the sidewalk next to the building and get their sanitizer from the adult standing by the door. We will continue to open up car doors as well, but this will help to keep the line moving! Thanks so much for all of your help as we try to make things go as smoothly as possible during this winter! Please let us know if you have any questions!

York Reads Everywhere! January 1 , 2021

This year, York Elementary is continuing to celebrate the excitement and joy of reading with our monthly challenge, York Reads Everywhere! We are asking all of you to join our whole school crew to share your favorite, unusual and fun reading spots. Each month will have new and unusual places to snap a picture of you, your child, or family reading! To share your favorite and fun reading spots, you will find a York Reads Everywhere post on our York Facebook page. Comment on the post to share your photo! You could also send the picture in a message to your teacher on Remind or Seesaw. At the end of each month, Mr. Kominowski will share the unusual places on announcements and your student will get placed in a raffle. If you complete the grade level challenge as well, you will receive an extra entry into the raffle! At the end of the month, we will choose a student and the prize will be sent home.

We will announce the December winner after the Holiday break!

York Reads Everywhere is an effort to inspire each other to pick up a book, magazine, recipe card, eReader, laptop, newspaper, etc. and start a reading adventure!

SO GET OUT THERE AND READ!
