In 1973 Panda Inn opened its doors in Pasadena. It all
began with a vision to create timeless Mandarin and
Szechwan dishes mixed with an innovative style. At
Panda Inn, the variety of delicious entrees celebrates the
remarkable history and authentic taste of China’s regional
flavors. The owners also created Panda Express, but
unlike the chain, the Panda Inn offers traditional entrees
of seafood, beef, pork and poultry as well as noodles,
rice, soups and salads. If you look them up on your cell
phone, you will see a way to get 6 free egg rolls. Our
hosts are Bob and Masako Burggraf. Come join us!
Tues, Jan 16, 6 PM

When I think of January, I usually think of the New Year,
setting new goals, and cold weather (although not so
much in CA.) But it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.
May you all enjoy each day of your adventure in 2018.
The month of January has a lot of unique holidays: 3rd
Fruitcake Toss Day, 10th Bittersweet Chocolate Day, 14th
Dress Up Your Pet Day, 15th Martin Luther King Jr.
Birthday, 23rd National Pie Day, 27th Chocolate Cake Day
and 29th Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.
Did you know: January 1st is both the furthest away and
closet day to December 31st.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the January 16th
Social:
Panda Inn Chinese Cuisine, 2 Centerpointe Dr., La Palma.

Hosted by: Bob and Masako Burggraf
Have a great month,

The Holiday Party for O C Vettes was held on
December 9 in Newport Beach. It was a 3-hour
cruise around the Newport Harbor on a
Hornblower Yacht that included lunch and
complementary champagne. Seventy-four
people attended, making it the largest turn out
that OCV has seen for any event in years.
Everyone had a fantastic time. Members wore
lots of holiday colors and seasonal sweaters.
The ship was very nice, with three decks and
outside seating available for everyone to take in
the sights. It was great to see the holiday
2017 Holiday Party Report decorations on all the homes facing the water.
The weather was sunny and perfect. The
luncheon was delicious with salads, a choice of
chicken or salmon entrees, and dessert. Service
was very good. And to top it all off, Santa Claus
was there to listen to all your Christmas wishes!
It got the holidays off to a great start.
A huge thanks to Joe Orsini and to our own
OCV elf Janet Cherry for organizing the party,
and also special thanks to Janet for the party
favors of candy and movie passes which she
donated to the club.

• The oldest evidence for soup is from 6,000
B.C. and calls for hippopotamus and sparrow
meat.
• Pringles once had a lawsuit trying to prove
that they weren't really potato chips.
• Pound cake got its name from its original
recipe, which called for a pound each of
butter, eggs, sugar, and flour.
• Ripe cranberries will bounce like rubber balls.

Monthly Social Hosts Needed A sign-up sheet has been passed around at the
last few Business Meetings for members to
sign up to host a monthly Social for 2018.
Several months are still open: June, August
and December.
It is not difficult to host a Social. You need to
find a restaurant that can seat approximately 30
members for the third Tues of the month. The
restaurant should be willing to accept separate
checks for each couple. There needs to be
adequate parking for members in a safe
parking lot.
If you are interested in hosting a Social for one
of the open months, please contact a member
of the Board.
If you are planning to attend the 2019 Caravan,
the latest version of the Caravan eNews starts
on page 11. Check it out!
Current Information for Fun
Run/Las Vegas Weekend
Page 7 January 2018 O C Vettes Orange Pits Newsletter
There are now 33 people signed up to go on the
Route 66 Fun Run trip in 2018. The trip is an
annual club event and everyone who attends ha
a great time.
Hotel and show information for the trip is now
available. If you missed the news at the OCV
January Business Meeting, contact Ron or
Michael Molendyk to get all the latest
information.
Here’s the itinerary. On Thursday, May 3rd we
will head to Las Vegas, staying at the Tuscany
Suites and Casino. Thursday night we will see
the Bee Gees tribute show at the Excalibur Hotel
and Casino. Friday we will lunch at the
Southwest Diner in Boulder City and then take
Highway 93 to Kingman. It’s a fantastic drive.
Saturday we will participate in the 31st annual
Route 66 Fun Run from Seligman to Kingman.
People from all over the world participate,
usually about 800 vehicles of all makes and
models. The Fun Run is not a race, but a 140-
mile pleasure cruise down historic Route 66 –
the Mother Road. In the afternoon we will
participate in the car show in downtown
Kingman, relax at the pool or take a nap.
The second leg of the journey begins Sunday-
departing Kingman to Oatman Ghost Town to
Topock/Golden Shores for the finish line of the
Fun Run and then lunch at the “Giggling Cactus”
in Needles, CA. After lunch we will head for
home.
Final information, itinerary and costs will be
given at the January 2018 business meeting.
Monies will be collected at the February 2018
business meeting so all reservations can be
locked in.
Hosted by Ron and Michael Molendyk. If you
have questions regarding the trip please call Ron
Molendyk at 714.524.6723, email at
[email protected] or see us at the January

2018 is in the planning stages. There will be a

will stay at the Inn at Deep Canyon. If you think
you would like to attend, you should call the Inn
at (800) 253-0004 to make your reservations.
Be sure to say you are with OCV. You can
always cancel if you find you are unable to
attend.
This year, we may bring back some old favorite
activities such as dinner at Las Casuelas
restaurant followed by a visit to the Palm
Springs VillageFest, the Thurs night street fair.
This trip normally includes a drive or tour some-
where on Sat, as well as golf, shopping, spa
treatments, relaxing by the pool and lots of
great dining. If you have an idea for a Saturday
trip or if you want to help with planning, please
contact Carol Thompson, Nancy Ward or Jane
Wheeler to let them know. This is always a fun
event. Plan to come along.

Aviation, an award winning jet, turbo-prop and
piston-powered aircraft repair facility
established in 1923 by famed aviation pioneer
Eddie Martin.
The Lyon Air Museum exhibit is comprised of
authentic aircraft, rare vehicles and related
memorabilia, with emphasis on the defining
event of the 20th century – World War II.
Through captivating and thought provoking
exhibits based in historical scholarship, visitors
