On Thursday, December 10 about 90 Chamber members and their guests gathered at the HSBC Bank in Manlius to celebrate the holiday season. Wine, hors d’oeuvres, and a light buffet dinner were served as everyone enjoyed mingling, visiting, and sharing a little holiday cheer. A special thank you to HSBC Bank for hosting this great event!
As the New Year, 2010 is upon us; new roads are also available and assessable for us to travel on. New ideas, new ways of doing things, new friend-ships are aplenty, just waiting for us all to make the most of. All we have to do is open our minds and hearts to the endless possibilities that present them-selves to us.
And so it is with the Chamber, 2010 brings in new possibilities with new leadership, new ideas and new energy to make things happen. Give the leadership team your support and your ideas, as the Chamber is here for YOU. Your feedback is vital to help the Chamber grow and be the best that can be for you. Your voice matters.
I wish everyone PEACE, HARMONY and JOY this year and in all that follow. Thank you all again for your support over the past year.

A Syracuse Institution Moves to Manlius! St. Laurent Framing, the owners of the framing business that was located at Commercial Art Supply for over 30 years, has joined forces with Ironstone Gallery in Manlius, and has moved this week. The business that Doug St. Laurent started in 1987 had purchased the fram-ing business of The Art Store in 2004, and opened Iron-stone Gallery in 2007 in Manlius. When asked the rea-sons for the move, Doug St. Laurent said, “We do an amazing amount of framing every year and I found myself spending a lot of time running between the 3 stores. I really wanted to refocus on our customers instead. I realized that if we brought our best people into one location we could really serve our customers better”. Big plans are in the works for St. Laurent and Ironstone. Coming soon will be regular receptions to introduce the public to local emerging artists. Also art classes for kids and adults being planned. An expanded showroom will make more room for art and more room to work with designers and clients. For artists, St. Laurent and Iron-stone will soon be offering mat boards, foam boards, frames, glass and other materials at wholesale pricing that will rival mail order but without the costs of shipping. The Manlius Historical Society is pleased to announce our 34th Annual Antique Show to be held: April 10-11, 2010. Change in location: This year’s show will be held at the Manlius Village Centre, 1 Arkie Albanese Ave., located immediately off of Rt. 92 in the Village of Manlius. We are very excited about this new central location, as it is adjacent to the library, senior center, the local Swan Pond Park, and area businesses. After the well-received addition of a “restoration corner” at last year’s event, we will once again give the public the opportunity to learn more about restoration while they shop for new treasures. We are inviting specialists to sign up for a Speaker Series to be held over the weekend to attract wider audience to the event.More details to come soon. We are accepting dealers and restoration specialists into the Show. Please contact 315-682-6660 or email [email protected] for more information.

LEARNING CENTER
The Transportation Secu-rity Administration is start-ing a program to deal with a problem that has haunted it for years: innocent pas-sengers being delayed and questioned at airport check-in because their names match or approximate the
name of someone on the terrorist watch lists. As part of the new initiative, you will also need to provide your birth date and gender when making a reservation. A new federal initiative called Secure Flight re-quires that the name on the ID you use at the air-port security checkpoint precisely matches the name on your airline ticket. Secure Flight takes effect for domestic passengers early next year and for international passengers by the end of 2010. Under Secure Flight, the federal government will
have a single version of your name on file, along with your gender and age. That same information is supposed to be on your boarding pass. The problem could be if your passport or driver’s li-cense has a different version of your name, which could delay you while your identity is verified against the watch list. So - it could be in your interest to ultimately change your driver's license to match the name on your passport and while your at it, make sure your name on your frequent flyer number with the air-lines matches your name on your ticket, your driver's license and your passport. A word to the wise - take time now to make sure everything is a match or you might be spending time in the security line. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to Judy at [email protected]
