Board Appreciation Month We are so fortunate to have an

amazing school board that not only serves our students but

our teachers and parents alike I have worked in a couple of

districts and never before have I seen board members who have

such huge hearts for our students and always keep them on the

forefront of every decision that they make Mrs Kathy Livezey

will be coming to our campus on Wednesday so we can thank

her and also show her all of the wonderful things we have going

on at Boyd Thank you MISD Board Members for all that you

Teacher SpotlightAnyways it is with great honor that I present the Bronco Spirit Wreath of the Week to ROBIN LAKEY Her name is one I hear a lot in my classes and that is because her students love her and truly enjoy being in her class She takes such pride in teaching her students and making sure that none of them are left behind She goes the extra mile for not only her students but other students as well that may be struggling to ensure their success She has a great big heart and truly does care about each student here at Boyd

One World UpdatesWith the rollout of the new MacBook program MISD has allocated a new staff position dedicated to helping students with MacBook issues Allison Hall is the resident MBHS Apple Technician located in room A130 (across the main hall from the H-hall stairs)

She will be on Campus daily from 7 until 245

Students can drop off their MacBooks before school from 710 until 725 and during all lunch periods

Students willnot be able to see her during class time

When a student takes hisher MacBook down to A130 they will fill out a help ticket and in essence receive a ldquoreceiptrdquo In some cases the student will receive a ldquolonerrdquo to use while their MacBook is being repaired

If Allison Hall is ever out Jenny Keiser (the MBHS Campus Technician) will be the Back-Up (Students will still take the MacBooks to A-130)

Students should not take their MacBooks to the Library

Once the MacBook has been repaired Allison Hall will contact the library in order to determine the student location A pass will be sent to the student informing them to stop by During lunch or after school Students should not be send down during class

All records of damages repairs etc will maintained by Allison Hall in A-130

Seniors I hope you had a restful and productive winter break and are ready to finish out your senior year strong June will be here before you know it Here are some things you need to be working on now in preparation for college next Fall MEF Scholarship Application (wwwMmEeFfcom)Last year we gave out over 290 different scholarships to just MISD seniors The deadline is February 13th at 330 pm Remember to forward your email confirmation(once submitted) to me and turn in your signed Parent Signature Sheet by (or before) the deadline These are the only two things you have to turn in to me Many of you have already started working on the application so keep up the good work and be cognizant of your recommendations being submitted before the deadline so you can submit your application If you havenrsquot started already get started You want to give your recommenders plenty of time to complete your recommendations YOU CANNOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION UNTIL ALL FOUR OF YOUR RECOMMENDERS HAVE SUBMITTED THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS Also make sure you go back in to your application and submit it once they have all submitted their recommendations See the attachment for the MEF Library Scholarship details Other Scholarship opportunitiesWe have a family of a student that would have graduated in this class who are doing a scholarship in her memory ndash Six Paige Minatrea The scholarship application is attached and they will only take the first 43 applications I would encourage you all to apply for this one as soon as possibleI have also attached the Torchmark scholarship which is also local Please check your Naviance account for more scholarship opportunities FAFSAWe covered a lot of this information in your English class The most important thing to remember is to submit your FAFSA by your colleges priority deadline Check the universities website for the date A lot of priority deadlines are March 15th Make sure you use the wwwfafsagov website so it is free Even if you think your family wonrsquot qualify for any free money everyone qualifies for loans The federal loans will have the best repayment plans It is better to have the loan and not need it than to need it and not have it Some upcoming events we will be having to help you through the financial aid process are Funding College 101 ndash Thursday January 15th at 630 PM in the Boyd Cafeteria All high schools are welcome We will go into detail about completing the FAFSA and any other financial forms for college FAFSA Workshops ndash You can bring your documents needed to complete the FAFSA and we will help you complete itThe documents needed areSocial Security NumbersParent and Student W-2 formsUntaxed incomeStudentrsquos Driverrsquos License (if available)

Dear Counselor We are pleased to announce the Torchmark Scholarship Application process High school seniors across McKinney will be competing for one of four scholarships of $1000 per school year (August ndash July) Program Requirements Current high school seniors must

bull Be a US resident bull Complete and submit the application and requested documents bull Provide a copy of high school transcript (with application submission) bull Provide two letters of recommendation from teachers coaches employers or clergy bull Graduate from High School bull Provide a copy of acceptance letter from college of choice

Dear Counselor We are pleased to announce the Torchmark Scholarship Application process High school seniors across McKinney will be competing for one of four scholarships of $1000 per school year (August ndash July) Program Requirements Current high school seniors must

Boys SoccerMckinney Boyd Boysrsquo soccer officially kicked off District against the Allen Eagles on Friday Jan 16th The JV2 team went down a goal early in the first half due some sloppy play to a talented Allen team The Broncos were however rejuvenated in the second half and started to get back in the game The broncos were rewarded with a goal from Matt Williamson to tie the game in the second half The final score was 1-1

The JV team also tied Mathew Drekmann put the broncos ahead in the first half in the 22nd minute The broncos dominated for long periods of the game but couldnrsquot hang on to the lead In the second half a desperate Allen found the back of the net to tie the game with a score of 1-1

The varsity game did not disappoint With the broncos winning 4-1 the game was full of excitement Hayden Uhl and Braeden Andrews put the broncos in front early in the first half Michael Lewis did not want to disappoint his growing fan base For the second game in a row he scored from a flip throw and assisted on a goal with another flip throw
