The psalmist reminds us, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger forever.” With this knowledge, we may confess our sins before God and one another with confidence.

Greeting Presiding Minister:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.

3

God of the heights and depths, at our own peril, we turn away from you. When our shortcomings are exposed to your light, we wish to hide. We fear your judgment; we forget your mercy. When we are angry, we plot little revenges and shun your desire for reconciliation and compassion. Your ways are not our ways, for your ways are permeated with love. We look to you from the petty darkness of our hiding places and hear your call to come into the light.

We are ever surrounded by God’s forgiving light. In the name of + Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven.

Eucharistic Prayer Presiding Minister: We give you thanks, O God, for making your love evident since the very beginning of time when you spoke the word which replaced the darkness of chaos with life-giving light. A light which has nurtured generations of people, and plants and creatures, great and small. A light which also revealed the fear and powerlessness caused by corrupt and evil actions. And so you spoke the Word which would once and for all dispel the darkness of chaotic lives. Through your love for the world the Word became flesh and lived among us full of grace and truth. In Jesus that same Word showed just how beloved we are, by loving us and giving himself for us.

...Send the power of your Holy Spirit upon these gifts of bread and wine, O God, that we may experience the presence of the Word-made-flesh—Jesus Christ. Breathe your Spirit in us that we may be one body with him— living out his ministry in the world today and every day. Amen

10

Lord’s Prayer

Presiding Minister: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
