Three Missions Today we begin with one of the “servant songs” from the book of Isaiah, a song prophetic of Jesus’ ministry of service. Isaiah’s mission is not only to bring back the children of Jacob to gather in Israel; it is also to be “a light to the nations” (Isaiah 49:6). Jesus Christ, as servant, will be the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy and the basis of the new. This Sunday we begin a series of readings from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Here Paul is identified by his mission: he is an apostle of Jesus Christ. The church at Corinth to whom he addresses this letter is also identified: it is part of the universal church of God. The Corinthians are called to holiness, as are all Christians. Though the feast of the Baptism of the Lord was celebrated last Monday, today’s Gospel also alludes to the importance of that event. The reading emphasizes that Jesus “outranks” John: his baptism in the Spirit will eradicate sin. Jesus accepts John’s baptism, even though it is he himself who is the Lamb of God. La lectura enfatiza que Jesús “tiene precedencia” sobre Juan: su bautismo en el Espíritu erradicará el pecado. Jesús acepta el bautismo de Juan, a pesar de que él mismo es el Cordero de Dios.

Starting this month we are going to share some information about our parish.
In March we will have a Parish Lenten Retreat in preparation for the formation of a Pastoral Council. St. Alexander Catholic Church was built in 1910 to serve the Catholic community in the Cornelius area. In the early 1960’s it became the Catholic Church’s center for ministry to the Hispanics in Washington County. Much of the Church’s ministry to the Hispanic community, besides religious ministry, included basic services such as immigration counseling, food and clothing assistance, help in locating housing, and help with transitions. Empezando este mes vamos a tráeles un poco de información sobre nuestra parroquia. El mes de marzo tendremos un retiro parroquial en preparación para la Formación de un Consejo Pastoral.
La Iglesia Católica de San Alejandro fue construida en 1910 para servir a la comunidad católica en el área de Cornelius. A principios de 1960 se convirtió en el centro de ministerio de la Iglesia Católica para los hispanos en el condado de Washington.
Gran parte del ministerio de la Iglesia para la comunidad hispana, además del ministerio religioso, incluyo servicios básicos como ayuda de inmigración, de alimentos y ropa, ayuda para localizar hogares. Al presente trabaja muy de cerca con otras agencias para proporcionar servicios a la comunidad hispana.
