Hello Residents,
Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s January 2020? I hope all of you have a wonderful and prosperous year. It seems like only yesterday that we were practicing our Christmas program here at Regency. I must say that everyone in the program did an outstanding job, and I appreciate the time that each member devoted to the program.
January is usually a very cold month, and a lot of times you are stuck inside, but with our activity program there will be lots to do. I know I’ll be making some of my white chocolate candy, so I hope several of you come down and help me. Valerie has the date posted in this newsletter. Our January calendar is loaded with various activities, so each of you should be able to find something that interests you. Depression can easily set in during the cold months, so please keep yourself busy.
One last word— don’t forget that it’s flu season. If you haven’t had your flu vaccine, consult your doctor as soon as possible. Flu and pneumonia can be serious for children and adults, so wash your hands, stay away from folks who are sick, and get your vaccines.
Have a great month!

This is probably one of our favorite activities that we have had in a while. Perhaps it is because the students from John Hay 5th grade came with the sole purpose of getting to know us and enjoying some time with us. It was so re-freshing to see our residents and these students conversing and playing games. We have made some wonderful new friends that will definitely be returning soon. Be sure to watch the newsletter and calendar for their return.
John Hay Visit — December 2nd
For several years, we have participated in the Morristown Christmas Parade. We always have such a great time. As we settle in our place in the parade line, we enjoy some delicious pizza, chips, and cookies. We sing Christmas carols and wave at all the spectators that come to see the parade. We are already looking forward to next year!

What makes Karaoke Christmas Karaoke you might ask?!? Christmas songs and Christmas accessories, of course. We had a great evening singing some classic Christmas songs like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Joy to the World,” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” And a few crazy ones like “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” Crowd fa-vorites seemed to be when our group sang “Let It Snow” and “We Wish you a Merry Christmas.” We will have regular karaoke again in January. Come join us on Thursday, January 9th at 6:00 pm. We will have a great time!
Christmas Karaoke — December 10th
Perhaps the longest-standing Christmas tradition that is still carried out, our Resident/Employee Christmas Party began when Regency first opened in 1984. Employees and Residents gather to share fellowship, food, and fun. The Dietary Team prepared a delightful plate of ham sliders, chips, pinwheels, and homemade fudge. Several employees participated in the Ugly Sweater Contest. As always, Santa and Mrs. Clause delivered Christmas presents to all employees— generously given by our residents. It is always an enjoyable event! We look forward to continuing the tradition next year.

If you were able to attend our Mistletoe Market Craft Fair, you probably saw Jennifer Campbell’s display of Canvas Art. She had an amazing display of canvas and wood art in the back corner of the Parlor that day. She has agreed to teach us how to make some beautiful can-vas art. We are going to start with a Snowman Canvas. Join us in the Bingo Room at 2:00 pm to learn how to make an adorable Snowman Canvas Craft.

Every year, Shelly Walker volunteers to set up the Winter Village. Every year, we just don’t know how she will top the previous year. But she always finds a way to make the Village bigger, better and more beautiful!! She spends many hours placing each piece with love. The end result brings much enjoyment and pleasure to all. Thanks for putting a smile on our faces, Shelly.

Alan was born and raised in Rhode Island. He had 2 brothers (one passed away last year). After he graduated, he went to work for a steel mill and quickly discov-ered that was not the job for him. He worked in 2 different restaurants for 18 years — he started as a bus boy and worked his way up to Head Dishwasher; even train-ing new employees on how to do the job. After his parents retired, they moved to Florida. He started work for Command Medical, making medical supplies, where he stayed for almost 12 years. He retired in 2006. He moved to TN in 2015 with
his brother and sister-in-law. They lived in Sevierville until Alan moved into Regency in September 2016. He says his favorite things about living at Regency are the people and the activities. Alan loves to sing and play guitar. He sings once a month for the Regency Church. Alan loves to play Bingo and participates in almost all of the activities offered. Alan loves children. He is the proud uncle of 5; great uncle of 15, and great-great uncle of 1.
