Notes from Nurse Scott

Please have your child wear a mask upon arrival to school and

pack extra in your child’s backpack. Students must wear a mask

to help prevent the spread of COVID. We have given out 600 masks as

of December. If you are able, we are also asking for donations of new

disposable kid’s masks to the clinic.

Thank you,

Shelia Scott, R.N., B.S.N.

Virtual Career Day Videos I am seeking volunteers who would be willing to make a short video about their career. The information needs to be age-appropriate, interesting, with fun facts about your career. It would be great if you show tools/visuals to help the children understand your career or if you record your video in your work space (not to exceed 15 minutes in length). I would need your video by Monday, January 25, 2021. We need videos of all different careers for different age groups (4-10 years), so your help with this would be greatly appreciat-ed. Look for a sign up genius link in a Skyward email coming soon. Contact me with any questions. Thank you!

Musical Memos

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a chance to rest and spend time with loved ones over the break. If you

missed the email with our special holiday videos, please feel free to watch them here: Jingly Videos

While we miss the chance to perform on stage, we are still making some great music together during class. Stu-

dents will continue to use found sound instruments, as well as classroom instruments that can be easily sani-

tized. As always, singing does require a mask (not a face shield) so thank you so much for making sure your child is

ready for music class each week.

We will also continue our music time travel this semester. We will explore Classical, Romantic, and Modern mu-

sic. Feel free to quiz your students on some of their favorite new composers.

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

News from the Art Room!

Happy 2021! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and was able to

relax and enjoy the holidays. We will be starting our year off focusing on the

element of art: color. Therefore we will be creating some very colorful projects!

4th grade will be finishing their stuffed animals and PK through 3rd grade will

be working on self portraits.

I can’t wait to start creating art in the new year!

Coaches Corner

Happy New Year!

Thank you for sending in Lysol wipes and spray. We really appreciate your generosity and

helping keep our gym safe and germ free.

We will begin our ball handling and basketball units. Students will learn basic dribbling skills,

passing skills, and how to shoot a basket. We will also play basketball leadup games using

these skills. We will continue to visit the track for students to earn prizes for the laps they

run/walk. We have students that have earned 20, 40 and 60 lap prizes.

P.E. Reminders: Please make sure your child wears their tennis shoes on P.E. days and wears

a mask that fits when they run and jump up and down. We also recommend not wearing

gator mask on P.E. days if possibly. These have a tendency to fall down during exercise and

play. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Library News

Please remind your child to keep their library book in their backpack when not read-

ing. We are on a 6 day rotation which means that your child will not visit the library on

the same day each week. By keeping their book in their backpack your child will always

know where to find it on library days. We always say… “Read your book then put it back

in your backpack.”

Please make sure that water bottles are kept on the outside of backpacks. I have

seen several sad faces when water bottles leak and get library books wet. The library

is such a fun place to read, imagine and create. A goal that

we have at Rustic Oak is to create lifetime readers. I hope

that you will encourage your child to read each night.

Public Preview of PK Instructional Materials Adoption

Parents are invited to preview materials being considered by Pearland ISD for Pre-K for implementation beginning with the 2021-2022 school year. These materials have been determined by a committee that in-cludes district Pre-K teachers. Parents may review the materials online by clicking this link. Or visiting https://www.pearlandisd.org/Page/26722

There is a feedback survey at the bottom of the webpage link that you may complete to provide input to the district committee as they makes the final selection for the materials to be adopted. Pre-K classes will use these materials for 8 years and the materials are being considered as a part of the Texas Education Agency’s adoption process, Proclamation 2021. The public preview is available January 1-February 28, 2020.

If you have any questions, you may contact Donna Tate, Federal Pro-grams/Grants Administrator at [email protected] or 281.485.3203 X74949.
