Steve Jobs once said “The only way to do great work is to love what you do”. I can truly say I love what I do. I came into the senior care industry looking for a summer job while waiting for college to start so I could start my path as a Civil Engineering student. I started as a weekend concierge and during my time as a concierge I fell in love with all the residents and community. I felt like I had found my calling. During my second year as a concierge I told my parents that I would be changing my major from Civil Engineering to Psychology. I choose Psychology because that would have been the closest thing to working with seniors and it would allow me to graduate on time. I later was promoted to a Business Office Manager and that same year I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with emphasizes in Industri-al Organization and a minor in Criminal
Justice. As a Business Office Manager I was encouraged by my Executive Direc-tor, at the time, to get my Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Certifica-tion. Once I had my certification I stepped in as Interim Executive Director until I was offered a permanent commu-nity. I hope to continue to grow in this indus-try by following my heart and deep de-sire to make a difference in each of our residents’ lives.

Be Safe
Prevent Falls
What’s important to Know!
Most fractures among older adults are caused by falls. The most common are fractures of the spine, hip, forearm, leg, ankle, pel-vis, upper arm, and hand. Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths. If you or your loved one has fallen recently or has balance problems, consider the following home safety tips. Remove small throw rugs or
use double-sided tape to keep the rugs from slipping.
Hang light-weight curtains or shades to reduce glare in your room.
Wear shoes inside and outside the house. Avoid going bare-foot or wearing slippers.
Remove things you can trip over (such as papers, books, clothes, shoes) from stairs and places where you walk.
Keep items you use often in cabinets you can reach easily without using a step stool.
Use non-slip mats in the bath-tub and on shower floors.
Use mobility aids such as walkers or canes as needed for support.
Also, engaging in regular physical activity, especially strengthening exercises, may reduce your risk of falling by increasing strength and balance.
