Sikeston CVB Introduces New Tour Series
The role of Sikeston’s Convention & Visitors Bureau is to economically assist local businesses and motels by bringing visitors to Sikeston. This is accomplished through a regional marketing effort that highlights both Sikeston’s strategic location on the interstate highway system, and by working with local event organizers and sponsors to inform populations within our primary market (Missouri, Illinois and Texas) of local offerings. Alone, Sikeston may not have the ability to pull weekend or day-trippers from St. Louis or Illinois. However, by packaging the events and sites of the four-county area with the lodging, restaurant and shopping opportunities found in Sikeston, a “win-win” scenario is created for the region. Sikeston’s “Tour” series includes: Art & Antique Lovers Tour; Historic Home Tour; Wine Country Tour; Veterans Memorial Driving Tour; Fishing Trail; Nature, Hiking & Bird Watching Trail; and Restaurants, Cafes & Pubs Tour. CVB Staff invites you to experience these tours, as well. Details are available on the CVB website at www.visitsikeston.com.

City Council Accepts 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan
During their Special Meeting of December 19, the Sikeston City Council accepted the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2013 through 2017. The Capital Plan is a needs assessment as determined by each department. This information is used as a planning tool for budget preparation, as it reflects anticipated purchases from the Transportation Fund for eligible Street Division purchases and from the Capital Improvement Fund.
Cost estimates are based on projected needs, at current costs. Future conditions and circumstances will dictate modification of this plan. Any purchase proposed in the plan is contingent upon the appropriation of funds by the Sikeston City Council, and subsequent authorization to proceed with the bid process by the City Manager.
