While searching for the Z
• Himali found some discrepancies in Z between monitored and unmonitored
• I noticed a large excursion in X/Y, traced it to Oleg’s PG file– 9mm is a bit excessive: suspected typo and
changed 699etc to 679etc
• Temporary test only! May just set to ideal instead.
– Checked if some of the other numbers agreed with the PG file we got from tracking.
– They didn’t. Crud

Back to the PG basics
• Redo chamber centers from Oleg’s files
• Document and automate as I go
• http://www.hep.wisc.edu/~jnb/cms/predictCSC/index.html
• Documentation mostly done
• Created an xml file with only PG estimates, no monitored chambers– Adding the monitored chambers is only another
day to do and document, but here it is Friday already

What happened to interpolation?
• It was only suited for the ME+1/2 data: ME1/3 isn’t ready because the Z work isn’t done, and ME-1/2 is too sparse.
• Rather than have only one (not yet proved better) procedureal exception, do the whole thing the same way for now.
• http://www.hep.wisc.edu/~jnb/cms/16Jun2010/pgonly.xml– Absolute coordinate xml file

Testing
• Pivarski’s tilt tool– ME+ all have Z(outer)>Z(inner)
– ME- all have Z(outer)<Z(inner)
– OK
• The deviation display plots follow

Z deviations
• Even and odd vary by O(1.1 mm)– Odd chambers don’t have coded targets surveyed,
so their Z’s are ideal
– Investigating

Prospects
• I have a documented procedure for creating the positions of the unmonitored chambers
• I need to compare results with the older version (this is an hour old)– Need to track down source of 1.1cm shift at ME-4/1
• Once it looks sane, add monitored chambers; should have this tomorrow (tonight if the shift is easy to find)
• Needs versioning to fit into the overall system

UPDATE
• The “PG-only” constants use – YE1 disk centers/angles from May 2010 Link fit
– YE3 disk centers/angles from Survey UR-0161
– YE2 disk centers/angles from Survey UR-0160
• Known to be wrong: disks moved
– Average RotX for ME1/2 from May 2010 Link fit
– Average RotX for ME2,3,4 from Bellinger fits to SLM lines which used May 2010 data and the disk survey positions described above
– Average RotX for ME1/3 from CRAFT09
• Positions entirely PG
• Angles informed by averages from fits

Comparisons/corrections
• Shift was 1.1cm, not 1.1mm for the coded target measurements for ME-4– I find nothing wrong with the derivation of the
chamber centers, starting with UR-0088
– Not much variation chamber to chamber
– Real effect?
• Don’t know if I should adjust the odd-numbered chambers to match
• Difference between Carolli PG centers and mine:– X or Y, RMS 1mm
– Z RMS 3mm, 2mm if omit the ME-4 oddity above
