James Moon Professional Biography

James Moon’s professional career might best be described as eclectic. He has worked in the mail room; sold financial services, cellular phones, and print and on-line advertising; managed financial groups, various support functions, and inside and outside sales teams; has been an executive strategist and operations manager for local, regional and national sales organizations; and has been a successful entrepreneur.

James started his career sorting mail in 1985 and was promoted into various clerical and professional duties at the Federal Reserve Bank while attending University of Houston. Upon finishing his undergraduate work in Finance, James moved into the role of Total Quality Management Coordinator. It was this experience of leading cultural transformation at the bank that solidified James’ core values of People, Teamwork, Continuous Improvement, Customer Service Excellence and Financial Results.

During this same timeframe, James completed his MBA on scholarship, concentrating in Management and receiving recognition as the Outstanding Graduate Student. This prestigious award was presented to one student based on GPA and campus involvement (He earned a 3.9 GPA and was on the school’s Continuous Improvement Team).

Armed with an advanced degree and newly adopted management philosophy, James was promoted into his first supervisory role in 1993, where he managed Budget and Expense, Business Development and Customer Service groups for the Federal Reserve, while continuing as TQM Coordinator. During the next several years at the Fed, James honed his leadership style and hiring skills, while finding his passion for building and motivating successful teams.

After almost 12 years with the bank, James retired and joined GTE Wireless as an Account Executive in 1996 to learn how to sell and position himself for a sales management career. In very short order, he was the top sales person on his team and earned a promotion to Major Account Manager, where he sold wireless products to Fortune 50 accounts.

In 1998, James was recruited away from GTE, and soon began working with Primedia as the Publisher and Sales Manager for the Miami Apartment Guide. Over the next ten years (including a 2 year break from Primedia while working for Trader Publishing Company), James developed a reputation as a market “rehab” and launch specialist, and was promoted numerous times, serving as Publisher for the Atlanta Apartment Guide, General Manager at Trader Publishing Company, Southeast Regional Director for New Home Guide, Director of New Business Development for New Home Guide, VP of Autos for Primedia, and ultimately, VP of Homes for Primedia. In this final corporate position, James oversaw 5 regions and 25 markets, developed sales and product strategy for 28 publications, 3 titles and their respective websites, and managed a staff of over 135 sales and support personnel.

James left Primedia in late 2008 to pursue an entrepreneurial endeavor as President and managing partner for HomeServiceReports.org. Building the company from the ground floor, he has been instrumental in all phases of the business, including strategy, financial planning, product development, personnel recruitment, and sales and sales management.

A sales veteran of more than 14 years, James offers prospective employers several resources including:strategy development; financial planning and management; sales planning and execution; national, regional and local sales infrastructure design; recruiting and motivating sales teams; teaching sales process and account management skills; extensive experience in “rehab” and launch market strategy; and establishing loyal, performance-based sales cultures.

When not working, James enjoys time with his wife Sunshine, his 4 year-old son Austin and 1 year-old daughter Savannah, and distance running.
