We compared the characteristics of a cultured human "Helicobacter heilmannii" isolate with thoseof other helicobacters found in animals. Phenotypic, protein profile, 16S rDNA seuence, andDNA!DNA hybridiation analyses identified the human strain as H. bizzozeronii, a speciesfreuently found in do#s. $hus, H. bizzozeroniimay ha%e oonotic potential.
