State Assessment Schedule 2016 The Kansas State Assessments will look a little different this year. There is a new test format that allows for more authentic testing in smaller chunks of time. That means students will be testing on more days but for shorter time periods. The average length of each session is approximately thirty minutes, although no portion of this assessment is ever timed. Students may take as long as they need. Students will be assessed in reading, writing and math. Fifth gr. will be assessed in science as well. The dates our third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be tested are listed below. Post cards will be sent out with these dates in the next few weeks. Please look for them. Third Grade: Feb. 23 & 29 March 1, 28, 29, 30, 31 April 21, 22, 25, 26 Fourth Grade: Feb. 22 & 29 March 1 April 1, 4, 5, 6, 14, 15, 18, 19 Fifth Grade: Feb. 22 March 3, 4, 28, 29, 31 April 1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22

Candid pictures needed for yearbook! We are collecting candid pictures to possibly be used in the Yearbook. Candid pictures may include pictures of parties, music programs, field trips, special events, etc. Pictures that include at least 3 kiddos are fantastic! Higher resolution pictures work the best Please email pictures to Angela Randall [email protected] or submit online directly to Lifetouch: community.lifetouch.com (access code is MAPBHF). Please label all pictures with grade and teacher. Thanks in advance! Yearbook Committee

Top Benefits of Walking and Biking to School
1) Get some exercise: Had a long day at school? An activity like walking or biking that gets the blood pumping
can help clear the mind. Getout in the sun and soak up some vitamin D!
2) Improve your test scores: More and more researchers are showing that a little exercise in the morning
improves student test scores. No extra studying required!
3) Encourage slower, safer car traffic: Drivers slow down when they see people walking and biking. And
when neighborhood drivers slow down, everyone else slows down too.
4) Be a future safe driver: The more practice students have navigating the rules of the road as a bike rider or
a pedestrian the more courteous driver the student will be.
5) Give the neighborhood character: More people out on their bikes or walking, and fewer people in cars
helps make the neighborhood safer, quieter, and friendlier. Get to know the neighbors!
6) Influence your community: Is your crosswalk visuable? Do drivers yield when you are walking or riding a
bike? Share feedback about the walk and bike to school with the SRTS team to help improve the walk and
bikablity of your neighborhood. (contact information about SRTS team members inserted)
