Smith (0-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. RHP David Hess (1-0, 0.00) Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (6-3) at Durham Bulls (6-3) JUMBO SHRIMP SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AT DURHAM The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Durham Bulls split a doubleheader at Durham Bulls Athlec Park yesterday, with the Jumbo Shrimp taking game one, 7-2, and the Bulls winning game two, 6-0. Brian Miller was outstanding in game one, reaching base all four mes, on two walks, a double, and a hit by pitch. Not only did Miller score three mes, but he also stole four bases, seng not only a career high, but also seng the record for most steals by one player in a game in Jumbo Shrimp history (2017-present). Lewin Díaz belted his fourth home run of the season, while Nick Neidert won his first game of the season striking out five in five innings. In game two, Jacksonville was shut out for the first me this season, tallying just four hits, and failing to advance a runner past second base. The Bulls also blasted three home runs in the contest, the most allowed in one game by Jacksonville pitching this season. IT’S MILLER TIME In game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader in Durham, Brian Miller reached base in all four plate appearances, scoring three mes, and stealing a career-high four bases. Entering play on Wednesday, the Shrimp had stolen just two bases as a team, while being caught three mes. Miller has stolen 87 bases in his career in 116 aempts (75%). He has stolen at least 20 bases in each of hiis three full season in the minor leagues. In 2016 he was one of just 16 players across all of Minor League Baseball to swipe 40 bags. EVEN STEVEN Jacksonville pitchers have worked an even 77.0 innings on the season, wiith starters accounng for 41.0 and relievers tossing 36.0. Jumbo Shrimp starters are 3-1 with a 4.39 ERA, yielding 38 hits (8.3 H/9) and 20 walks (4.4 BB/9) to go along with 44 strikeouts (9.7 K/9) in 32.0 innings. Meanwhile the bullpen has posted a 3-2 record and a 4.00 ERA. Relivers has posted 46 strikeouts (11.5 K/9) against only seven walks (1.8 BB/9) and 33 hits (8.3 H/9) ceded in their 36.0 innings. In fact, Díaz and Sánchez have driven in 26 of the Jumbo Shrimp’s 53 runs on the season (49.1 percent). Sánchez is 16-for-28 (.571) on the season with two triples, four home runs and a Triple- A-leading 14 RBIs. ABOUT JOSH

-Smith was originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 21st round of the 2010 draft out of Lipscomb University.

-The right-hander made his major league debut on June 23, 2015 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark. He has pitched in the big leagues with Cincinnati (2015-16), Oakland (2017), Boston (2018) and Miami (2019-20).

2021 SEASON

-Made two start for Kiwoom in the KBO, going 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA. He gave up seven runs on nine hits with five walks and five strikeouts before signing a minor league contract on April 27 with the Marlins.

2020 SEASON

-Smith became the 12th piitcher in Marlins history to both start a game and save a game in the same season.

-Opponents batted .158 with a .158 slugging percentage against his four-seam fastball, but hit his sinker hard (.294 average, .529 slugging percentage).

2019 SEASON

-As a reliever with Boston, he made 16 appearances and posted a 4.56 ERA. In two starts with the Red Sox, he surrendered eight runs on 12 hits in 7.1 innings for a 9.82 ERA.

-Left-handed batters hit .327 in 55 at-bats against Smith while he pitched in the majors, while he held right-handed hitters to a .247 average in 73 at-bats.

2018 SEASON

-Pitched to a 10.97 ERA in five games over the month of June (10.2 IP), but followed that up with a 2.22 ERA in July, 3.54 in August and 3.86 ERA in September. In total, his post-All-Star Break ERA was 3.31.

2017 SEASON-In Nashville, the right-hander posted a 2.95 ERA at home, but that mark rose to 4.30 on the road.

-Smith yielded more than two earned runs in an outing just once out of 19 appearances.

In three big league seasons from 2016-18, Okert went 1-1 with a 4.28 ERA in 70 games.
