Run & Shoot - Tiger Style JSU offensive coordinator Timmy Chang enters year two of installing his version of the “Run & Shoot” offense in the Capital City. Chang, who is one of only a handful of people in college foot-ball with a deep-based knowledge of the offense knows that it is in year two that the QBs , WRs and RBs begin to fully understand the offense.

JSU Tiger Sports TV/Radio Lineup -JSU FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS WITH COACH HAROLD AT 7PM TUES-DAYS (JSU-TV) -JSU TIGERS: GAMEDAY REPLAY, 7:30PM TUESDAY (JSU-TV) ———————————————————————–————————–— Quick Hitters -The last time JSU surrendered 50 points or more was in 2005 when the Tigers fell 64-36 to Ark. Pine Bluff. -JSU scored 14 points in the second quarter against MTSU, cutting the Blue Raider lead to 21-14 with 8:11 left in the first half. -JSU recorded 271 total offensive yards in its season opener. -JSU was 1-1 in the red zone against MTSU. O-Line Upgraded JSU’s offensive line played well for most of the game against MTSU. De-spite allowing four sacks, the o-line kept QB La Montiez Ivy pretty much upright. One thing that should help in protecting the QBs is establishing a run game as JSU moves forward this season. Putting the “RUN” in “Run & Shoot” Following JSU’s season opener at MTSU, head coach Harold Jackson expressed his desire to establish the running game. QB La Montiez Ivy had a pretty good day as he passed for 264 yards and a pair of TDs, but for JSU to be successful the Tigers have to put the ball in the hands of their running backs (Robert Johnson, IV, Jarius Moore and Joshua Bates). De-spite posting only 17 rush yards, Johnson averaged 4.2 yards per carry on four attempts. Moore had only five carries and Bates had two.

Bringing back the “Dark Side” defense JSU’s defense reclaimed its moniker “Dark Side” defense during fall camp. Despite giving up 56 of the 70 points MTSU scored , the Tigers defense competed relatively well. JSU had five TFL, a sack, a forced fumble and an INT. Veteran WRs Stepping Up Junior WR Daniel Williams has received most of the preseason hype on the offensive side of the ball. He was selected as one of the top collegiate players in the state of Mississippi last season. Recorded a 1,000 receiving yard and 9 TD sophomore season. And with his size and speed he is start-ing to gain buzz among NFL scouts. However, JSU’s two senior pass catchers Devin Fosselman and Jairus Moll helped jump start JSU’s of-fense. On JSU’s first scoring drive Fosselman hauled in the first two Ivy completion (14 and 10 yds) and Moll caught a two-yd TD pass. On the second scoring drive Fosselman caught a 35 yarder, setting up a 50 yard strike to Williams. Fosselman finished with 4 rec. for 64 yds and Moll had 5 catches for 46 yards.

Tigers Ranked 33rd in FCS Preseason Poll JSU was recently ranked 33rd in the Preseason FCS Coaches Polls. The Tigers received 21 votes in the poll. JSU and Alcorn State, which finished just outside the Top 25 poll with a 26th place finish, were the only two SWAC programs included in the preseason poll.

Scholar Athletes Three current members of the JSU football team (DL Cornelius Hender-son, OL Markus Cook and DE Javancy Jones) were named 2015 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education maga-zine. The honor recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved high standards of scholarship, athleticism and humanitarianism. In order to qual-ify, students must have a cumulative 3.2 or higher grade point average through the fall of 2014, completed one full academic year, be an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team during the 2014-15 year and have a record of campus community service.
