LILA MAE SMITH WILLIAMSON TEMPORARILY HOSPITALIZED

As this Newsletter goes to press, Lila is resting comfortably at Duke Hospital in Durham after experiencing what doctors have determined to be a reaction to a prescription drug. Doctors are confident that they can bring the condition under control in a matter of days.

LILA MAE SMITH WILLIAMSON is the second born of Joshua Willard Smith and Lula Sutton Smith. She is the widow of Samuel Williamson, Sr. Lila and Sam had four children: Barbara Lula (Babs), Rosa, Alice, and Sam Jr. After a fall earlier this year at the farm in Clinton in the house where she went as a bride in 1937, she has resided with her daughter Alice in Durham.

Lila asked that I re-do her article from last year's newsletter. However, an article that she submitted for the Thanksgiving 1982 Newsletter

just fell from nowhere into my hands. I am including this article instead:

1982 Thanksgiving A Note to Those I Love

"After having walked with my mother Lula Sutton Smith and father Joshua Willard Smith for thirteen years and then a second walk with husband Sam Williamson for almost forty-five years, many years of Heavenly experiences of Caring and Sharing of Home Life, Living and Giving and Rearing a Family, PI81Iling and Working for twenty years in the Sampson County School System, wonderful years seemingly fulfilling and nearing the Retiring age alone, I decided to reach out in another phase of Life and Try to offer a helping hand in the field of an Independent Living Specialist. Already I have found some helpful news for my Individual family. I hope to search further.

"After retiring I have had time to sit around and really count my blessings and examine the past, present and future--dreams of the future and remembering the footsteps of this old House, the quietness Sam and I shared here after the Children had gone to make a life of their own 20 years really was more than a life time for many. I must thank God for all life's treasures that have come my way and without My Dad, it's a new world, but I must march on. --Lila Williamson

A Home For Everyone "This House was once a home of Love,

Peace of Laughter, Hope of Togetherness, Caring and Sharing, a home where problems were solved and where Thoughts were linked together as a chain where plenty and prosperity reigned. With Samuel and God, all was well. Yes, we believed in God the Father always being the head of our Journey.

"But now Samuel is no longer here. The children come and go. As I sit in the quietness of this huge old dining room with the morning sunlight beaming through the picture window with shadows of limbs from the pecan trees 3l:owing themselves almost as a person with Sam's picture facing the happening's of come and go with memories of the faces of people who have shared the Love and Quietness of peace and plenty of Good

THE McCALOP HOUSE by Annie Doris McCalop

I am gratefuJ and thankful to still be around to share another Thanksgiving with you. Our roads have been bumpy but" God" is around to hold on to so we won't faIl. God should be first in our lives ... HE is, in my life. I ask forgiveness from you if I ever did you wrong.

I have been doing well this past year. My health is doing well. I got me a 'Rascal' (one of those gizmos that you ride around on) so I can get around. I can go and get my groceries and meds. I am blessed. 1 call it my 'Cadillac.' It gives me confidence and keeps me out of others' hair . . . smile.

When I was in South Carolina, this summer, having trouble renting my house, GOD woke me up around 2 one morning and said, Move back in your own house. I didn't put much in it because others had me feeling I had to be with someone. Another nite later on that same voice came again with the same message 'Go in your own house. t I toiled over the idea. I said, 'Why can't I? I said, "God, I am putting my hand in yours." Since I am sometimes hard headed .. .1 ask God to s]ap and knock me up to hear his directions. I worked out my plan and needs to be safe. All the bumps that were in my path became easy. I could walk over them with confidence. I had told Betty (my N. Y. sister.) She told me to write it all down .. . my list of all the things I needed to do. As I accomplished one, I crossed it off.

I AM BACK HOME. 35U Piney Grove Road. I AM HAPPY. The Disabled Program will be remodeling my home a little and making a patio door off my bed room ...easier for me to get out in an emergency I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY FOR ME. I AM NOT AFRAID AND I AM NOT AFRAID OF DEATH. MY PRAYER TO GOD IS TO TAKE ME IN MY SLEEP OR QUIETLY SO I AM NOT A BURDEN TO ANYONE. J AM NOT LONELY OR DEPRESSED. I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU MY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS. I AM WORKING HARD TO GET MY THINGS IN ORDER SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY.

THE MCCALOP HOUSE (Continued)

Have a memoriaL.Play me some religious and jazz music, chat and laugh about all the crazy things I used to do. So, I am the last of my family. So when I go, that's it. ..the end of Marie .... smile .... tlle end of an era. I love each of you my way. My prayer is for your health and safety. LAUGH WITH ME....I'M NOT GONE YET.

Irish and Joe family are doing O.K. TaShaun is grown (he thinks). He is just like his father when he was at that age. J look at him sometimes and laugh. Maya is in her own little world and have strings around Mom and Dad. She is smart and above her level. That's it for this year.

DORIS (Monk ... Duck .. . Hootney .. . Frang) When Mother called me for the whipping she would call/yeU "ANNIE DORIS MCCALOP, Come here now! I went.

Time is too slow for those who wait,

Too swift for those who fear,

Mary Alice and Willie are the parents of Eileen, Ivan, and Benita. Alice reports as follows: The Watkins Family is thankful to have each other and to be near relatives

Alice keeps AJeah for Sandra and Ivan. She finds it to be a real joy and a blessing that they allow her to keep Aleah. Aleah loves to read and likes going to the public library to Story Hour for the Lays Babies once or twice a week. She really likes the part where they choose a music maker. She likes the egg that jingles when you shake it. Aleah just didn't like giving it back at first when the activity was over. She likes going to her Great Granny's room and knocking on the door for a short visit and maybe to get some goody.

Alice feels it's an honor to have Mama living with her since December 200 I and hearing many things from her. Even the time she went to a dance in high school and her partner danced her to the other side of the room. And how she used to help her Grandmother Smith who was a " doctor."

They would go in the woods and along the ditch bank and collect roots and herbs for the sick with different ailments that Grandmother Smith would go and treat. Mom would help her prepare her black bag.

He attended a basketball clinic at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem a week this past summer. He also enjoys golf clinic. But there's nothing quite Eke getting a mind set to drive, backing the car out and driving up the driveway.

He likes that time en route there and back that he has alone with Sandra and seeing her during the day. Christian is looking forward to turning 5 years. He also started playing soccer, but dropped out after about 3 or 4 games. Aleah is 17 months old and loves to pull her doll and stuffed bunny rabbit in the red and blue wagon that was once Brian Anthony's. Aleah is learning to talk. She likes to pull Ace's (the dog's) tail and stand on him. She is finding out just what it takes to hold her own with her two brothers.

ALTHERlASNUTHPATTON (Continued from Page Ten)

MORRIS PATTON, SR., of Mt. Airy, North Carolina They were blessed with three children: Morris, Jr. (Deceased), Mitchell, and Anja Altheria. Altheria resides in Wadesboro, NC.

The Year 2002 is a year that will be easy to remember. J experienced two great losses. One of my saddest memories was the passing on of Sister O'thonia Smith Hill. Since her hip injury, she had been a member of my household since 1997 and I had become accustomed to seeing her everyday. I am so thankful that I was able to be there for her when she needed someone and really thankful that in the end she just slept away peacefully without a lot of pain. She was very patient and appreciative to those who helped with her care.

The second loss was of my very closest friend, Missouri McCabe Robinson. We had shared in our work, our family activities, our church and our communities since 1948. It was difficult to watch her give up the world, but I was happy that I was at ber side and able to comfort her at the end.

One of my greatest pleasures has been the time shared with my newest granddaugbter, Tamara Kamaryan Evans. On my last trip to Ohio, I traveled by air, my first flight since September 11. Anja and Ray entrusted their daughter to me while they traveled to a meeting in California. Tamara and 1 had a beautiful time keeping house, though I am sure she did a lot of things permitted by grandma's only. Earlier in the year, I traveled by Amtrack to witness Tamara's baptism.

A daily pleasure has been the early morning walks with son Mitchell. Five days each week we are on the track at 6:00 AM. I also enjoy his renditions as chwch organist each Sunday morning.

Here at home, I continue to provide assistance to Sis Sarah Z. and 1 continue to serve as secretary, financial secretary, deaconess, trustee, and director of Christian Education in my church. This year I served as vice chair of Anson County Board of Education, and was re-elected on November 5 to a second tenn as at-large member of the Board. I am Newsletter editor for Wadesboro Rotary and am an active member ofNAUW.
