PREFACE
Teaching is an art for it calls for the exercise of talent and creativity; but itis also a science for it involves a repertoire of techniques, procedures and skillsthat can be systematically studied and described, and therefore transmitted andimproved. Science consists of knowing while art refers to doing and implies skillsand aesthetic excellence.
As we grow, we will learn to make right choices that will have lifelongresults. That's why I'm not that regretful enough regarding my chosen course
because I know and I believe that I deserve to be called as a teacher. A persondoes not have to be old to be called wise and being older does not necessarily meanthat one is wise. But as young as I am I can say that Im wise since I always asks forthe help and respects the advice of older people who have more experience thanme. Just like in executing my lesson plans, I cannot grow as a pre-service teacher ifthere is no expert teacher that will teach me the proper way of managing a classsince we consider them as our mentor and they have more experience that they canshare to us for our improvement.
I appreciate the concern, guidance, and support of my cooperating teacher,Mrs. ERMELINDA A. LIM for without her I cannot be trained well as a future
teacher. And I also appreciate the unending support of our Dean because I can feelthat she always see to it that we are all into comfort and forget all the worries, shealways supervised us into our training as pre-service teachers. Thanks a lot. Thisportfolio contains the experiences of mine during my practice teaching at CagayanNational High School.
It is for this reason that this Portfolio is being made in order to present thedifferent learning experiences that the author had encounter in her four months ofstay as a student teacher in the Laboratory school ofCagayan National HighSchool wherein she experience like a real teacher teaching in the classroom. Thisalso contains documentary pictures in her different demonstration and some of her
involvement as a student leader and other co-curricular activities that contributes inher training to do the different role of a teacher.
The Author wishes that you will enjoy reading her journey as a student teacherand she hopes that you will learn something from her experiences.

A Teachers Prayer
Lord, let me be just what they need.
If they need someone to trust, let me be trustworthy.
If they need sympathy, let me sympathize.
If they need love, (and they do need love), let me love, in full measure.
Let me not anger easily, Lord but let me be just.Permit my justice to be tempered in your mercy.
When I stand before them, Lord, let me look strong and good and honest and
loving.
And let me be as strong and good and honest and loving as I look to them.
Help me to counsel the anxious, crack the covering of the shy, temper the
rambunctious with a gentle attitude.
Permit me to teach only the truth.
Help me to inspire them so that learning will not cease at the classroom door.
Let the lessons they learn make their lives fruitful and happy.
And, Lord, let me bring them to You.
Teach them through me to love You.

The school is a center for learning activities. It should be located ina place where children are safe from danger and free from noise or anyother form of destruction that may disturb them while classes are goingon. It should also provide pupils with services that will enhance theireducational program.
Cagayan National High School is a friendly school of youthwherein the teachers are very approachable and their students are veryrespectful. As such, the Laboratory School where I had my practiceteaching is really a school of high quality and has a good structure whichis really a good avenue to receive a quality education. The services areadequate and the size of the whole compound is enough to makelearning possible.
HISTORY OF CNHS
With the Thomasites as the organizers, the Cagayan National HighSchool was formally opened in June 1905 with Albrow S. Browell as its Principal.It was homed in the Orton Websters residence which was later brought by theGovernment its first school building.
In 1909, the first sets of high school seniors graduated and one of them wasBaldomero Perez who lately becomes the provincial Treasury and governor ofCagayan.
Meanwhile, to solve the pressing problems of teachers shortage, the schoolwhich at the same time was a teacher training institution offered Science in 1918
and secondary normal courses in 1921.
In February 1922, laid the cornerstone of the new Cagayan national highschool building as it present site, which was completed and inaugurated after ayear.
After more than two decades, the Americans came up with schooladministrators that chose Mr. Bugbears as principal, Mr. Demetrio M. Andres, anative of Marikina, became the first Filipino Principal of the school in 1931.During the term, post graduate normal courses were opened top meet the demandfor the elementary school teachers.
However in march 1937, the last group of normal senior studentsgraduated. For the first time, two valedictorians were proclaim and one of thegeneral courses and one for the normal courses.
Meantime, the out breast of World War II forced the school to close forthree years, nevertheless in September 1945; the school was re-opened byPrincipal Pedro M. Azunda with a handful of teachers holding classes in bomb.

In july 1945, regular publication of the Cagayan national high schoolstudent chronicle which is the school organ on Cagayan national high school up tothis day was resumed; Prospero Olivas was the editor in chief .
The school continued to progress between 1951-1975 through the effort of
the principal Vito S. Diaz; the head from 1953-1960. A printing press building wasconstructed through the aid of the late Congressman Tito Dupaya.
In 1967-1972, the school is one of the ten pilot schools in teachingsecondary schools English is the medium of instruction, as such it was theregional center for the five year English program.
The school year 1974-1975 started the implementation of the revisedsecondary curriculum program which is the present curriculum, the turning pointof the history of Cagayan national high school followed by nationalization in july01, 1976 by virtue of the presidential decree 1050. Mr. Condrado Bacuyag was thelast male principal of Cagayan national high school.
At the realm of Cagayan National High School after Mr. Conrado Bacuyag,promoted to the position of Schools Division Superintendent, the first ladyprincipal was Mrs. Teresa Perez under her leadership; all the contestants of thesecondary schools were awarded.

WORKING WITH THE COOPERATING TEACHER
I can say that I am blessed with a kind of cooperating teacher who reallywants to bring the best in me and for me to be trained that much in preparation tomy future career as builder of young minds. They would even say that experience isthe best teacher. Yes, I am very lucky for having a tenured teacher who stays atCagayan National High School for more than 10 years and thus she has a lot ofthings to share me in her experiences in the teaching profession that is why I donthave any problem in working with her for four months. I really learn much especiallythat she tries to expose me to the realities inside the classroom and in the school.She allow me to have as many demo teaching as I can for me to be trained that muchand be ready for whatever problems that I will encounter when I will be in myteaching career. She is also very understandable for she understands me whenever Igot absent because of some personal concerns and health problems.
WORKING WITH THE DEPARTMENT HEAD
A good leader is a good follower. As you look at her, you will think that she is strictand terror. That is the reason why at first we are afraid to approach her. The reason Imreferring to is Mrs. Ernestina Carinugan, the department head of the sciencedepartment. We first met her during our orientation. She came to our school to share to usthe rules and regulation of Cagayan National High School; we will have our practice
teacher. She dont let us choose our cooperating teacher bur rather gave her somebackground of each teacher. As days pass I observed that she is very diligent. She come toschool very early and roam around to see whether the teachers are teachings and to checkif the surroundings is clean. Looking into the science head, she was really a good boss. Inour first week there she assigns us to substitute a class and we accept it because I dobelieve that this will train as I continue to my practice teaching...

MY OBSERVATION
I can say that students in private school are very different from public school.They have a lot of differences in terms of school culture and behavior of thestudents.
A teacher really needs their lesson plan which serves as a blueprint of what heintends to build; whether they be in terms of attitudes, hearts, skills or knowledge.
With this, I observe that the Lesson was on simultaneously because as I sawthe success and progress of the students after all. I also observed that mycooperating Teacher employed different types of lesson plan such as Detailed, Semi-
Detailed and Brief Lesson Plan, depending on the type of topic she taught.
With my stay in Cagayan National High School from November untilFebruary with more than twenty demo teachings, I can say that student best learnwhen they are properly motivated to do certain tasks especially to Biology andIntegrated Science wherein they would even get absent just to skip with the subjectwhere they feel bored. They want activities that will let them move. It is true thatwhen a student not learned, the teacher has not taught because when I gaveevaluation to my students and majority of them did not pass, I feel disgusted for itspeaks about how did I taught them. It simply means that I did not teach them evenjust a little bit of the topic. While it is true that while teaching, the students are as if
they are all listening attentively to you, but only to find out that still they did notunderstand the discussion.
Teaching and learning is a process in such a way that there is no teaching ifthere is no learning and the same time there is no learning if there is no teaching.This is a process wherein there should be a give and take relationship between thestudents and the teachers so that learning will transpire. This would only means thatif there is no learning that happen inside the classroom, blame should not only be onthe teachers because the teacher really exert effort to make learning be possible to allstudents despite having a diverse learners. It has also something to do on howstudents cooperate to all the activities that the teacher ask them to do. So, theremust also be a sense of cooperation on the part of the students to have an interactivelearning environment.
The school is a center for learning activities. It should be located in a placewhere children are safe from danger and free from noise or any other form ofdestruction that may disturb them while classes are going on. It should also providepupils with services that will enhance their educational program.
Cagayan National High School is a friendly school of youth wherein theteachers are very approachable and their students are very respectful. As such, theLaboratory School where I had my practice teaching is really a school of high qualityand has a good structure which is really a good avenue to receive a quality education.The services are adequate and the size of the whole compound is enough to make
learning possible.
The Classrooms are conducive to learning. They are spacious, clean, orderly,properly lighted and well-ventilated. There are enough chalkboard for lessonpresentations and written exercises on the board. The teachers as well as the studentsare very creative and resourceful where in they decorated it with pictures and othermaterials appropriate to the current activity that the school is celebrating. bulletin boards also be repaved every month and was graded by those evaluators forthe search for the cleanliness classroom.
Bossing defines a lesson plan as a statement of achievements to be realizedand the specific means by which these are to be attained as a result of the activities

them, for example, the pacing of lectures, and effectiveways to help them learn in small group discussions.
According to them they enjoy being with for ashort period of time. They learned something that theynever yet encounter. Of course Im happy because theyhelp me developed my skills in teaching.

REFLECTION # 1:
MY VIEWS IN TEACHING
Be proud you are a teacher, the future depends on you
This is the usual quote that we always see in every school whether public orprivate. When I was in Elementary and even when I was in High School, Iusually ignore this for I dont really know what it is, but now that I am alreadymature enough to understand, and I found out that there is really a meaningfulmeaning on it.
In connection to this, I as one of the future builders in the future is really
challenge to have a good preparation to cater this challenge being imposed tous. With such, there is that we call practice teaching in order that we will have aglimpse of what really a teacher is in the classroom. This is the time that we aregoing to apply all the concepts and theories that weve learn during our tertiaryeducation and also the experiences that we have outside the school compoundwhich is very essential for our clients in the future. This is also the time that wewill be exercising all the roles that was given to us as a teacher such as themanager, the counselor, the model and etc.
The best way for me to describe my teaching philosophy is to use the
notion of a journey. Whether I work with students at the beginning of theirformal studies or near the end of their degree or anywhere in between, often thegoals and tools needed for the eventual successful completion of the journey arethe same: interest, courage, and the realization that the journey never ends. Iknow I am only one of the practice teachers of these students are going toencounter along their way and I also understandI am encountering them enroute, each having arrived from different paths and each facing differentchallenges. It is with this knowledge that I approach and have so far developedmy philosophy of teaching.

MY EXPERIENCE IN TEACHING
As a college student, it is difficult to know exactly what my futureentails. I do, however, have an idea of what my future teaching philosophy willbe. My teaching philosophy includes the objectives I want to accomplish as ateacher, the philosophies I plan to use to accomplish these objectives, and why
teaching and meeting these objectives is important to me.
My main objective as a teacher is to help my students learn and growwhile fostering their own creativity and curiosity. I feel that each teaching philosophy has its good aspects and intertwiningall philosophies will be most beneficial for my students and for my classroom. Aclassroom should be filled with hands-on, social activities. I believe a classroomlike this will foster a childs ability to be creative, self motivated, and to learnsocial skills that are essential in the real world. I do, however, believe that it is
necessary for students to learn the basics of education.
If students remember and make a connection with what they learn theywill be more able to apply it and use it in real life situations.
It is my belief that the classroom should be taught around the student, notthe teacher. Inquiring students should be answered and their questionsexplored. Teachers can begin by teaching the necessary information and can letstudents minds expand in other directions. Students will be more passionateabout topics they enjoy; therefore students perspectives and interests in thetopic should be one of the top priorities in a classroom.
Teaching my students in the way I believe is the most beneficial for themis very important to me. I believe there is a set of curriculum that all studentshave to learn, but there should also be flexibility in what is being taught. In mymind, the bottom line is it is important for students to learn and grow. If itmeans I need to change the way I teach every execution and work very hard at it,then that is what I will do. I feel it is necessary for teachers to not get caught in arut. Teachers need to try new things and explore new possibilities.
I believe that by using a combination of teaching philosophies and beingopen to the possibility of my teaching philosophy changing I will be creating themost effective classroom for my students.

WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITY?
I consider my primary responsibility to my students. What is my job?How to help students develop?
Teachers provide a catalyst for learning by making informationunderstandable and applicable to students. A teacher must have an intensepassion for teaching. An effective teacher also has the will and the ability toshow emotion, realizing that genuine emotions not only reveal his or hercharacter, but are also an effective and personal means of communication. Andnot least, a teacher must know the importance of being humble.
In order to meet the challengeswe have embarked on, I demandexcellence from my students just as I demand excellence from myself. Iimplicitly trust and often express my confidence in the unlimitedpossibilities for improvement and achievement in my students and in myself. Asa result I expect nothing less than their best efforts. To expect any less woulddeny them the opportunity to go beyond the limits of what they once thoughtpossible for themselves. I apply the same ideals and principles to my own

In terms of my personal experience, the best teachers I have had havebeen those who took the time to get to know me and present me with challengesand opportunities that suited my temperament and helped me grow within theprofession. It is tough to do that with everyone, because students dontparticipate at the same rate or even the same way in each class.

Here is an opportunity to explain the relationship between teachingobjectives and learning outcomes as instructional approaches and strategiesmediate them. This implies you have broad and specific goals and have decidedhow best to reach them. I believe content is important very important. Theteacher can find a way to make it relevant for the student. Im not always sure Ican do that, but I am learning to trust the content and the student to lead me tonew relevancies in a changing world. I try to remain flexible and incorporatewhat the students bring to the classroom, in assignments and comments, inorder to use that in presenting the methods and content to them.
Reflection # 4:
WHAT IS TO BE EXPECTED?
I expected that my cooperating teacher is kind, approachable andsupportive. And Im not disappointed to my stay at Cagayan National HighSchool because I learned a lot of things regarding on how to handle a classwith different culture. And that is very difficult in the part of a teacher most
especially if she dont have the courage to face a lot of trials or challenges.
I expected that I can finish my entire demo. Teachings ahead of timebecause I already learned my lesson when I had my In-campus practiceTeaching at USL. And Im very happy to say that Ive done my part as apractice-teacher at CNHS. I finished all my demonstration teaching aheadof time.
Although not all my evaluation forms are very high because I acceptedthe fact that Im not that very good enough in teaching but I still did my bestjust to provide my students with the information they need to know. I cant
really give what I do not have thats why Im open to anything else whatevercomments that they will tell me I do it for my improvement because Ibelieve that there still a room for improvement. Although I have somestrength that others do not have. And Im very proud of it because at lastIve learned the things that will serve as my shield to any circumstances thatI will face in the future.
I have lot of preparations regarding my off-campus practice teachingbecause we need to adjust on what will be the behavior of our students thatwe need to face with all our courage. I patiently endure all the stressed,fatigued, and sleepless nights just to do my lesson plans and instructional
materials. And of course the most important thing is to master my lesson forthe execution.
Every time I entered the class, I always see to it that I am prepared sothat my students will be impressed and their attention will be sustained. Ialso prepared myself to the negative comments of my cooperating teacherbecause that will serve as my reflections to what will be the grounds or thethings that I need to develop or improved.

I cant deny the fact that its very difficult to stand in front of the studentswithout any knowledge about the lesson. So, as a teacher always beprepared!!
Practice teaching is really a need on becoming a teacher, but practice
cannot be separated from theory. But sometimes student tent to hate teacherswho usually do more talking thus just tell us what to do is their common cry.But if we dont understand the theory behind something, its difficult to know ifwe are doing it well or if it is working. What is even worse is that we cantmodify the differences. Theory is the Why of teaching. When we ignore it, wecant make good use of the What or improve on the How.
Best practice would not be best practice if it wasnt always better thansomething else. Somewhere, someone is doing something different and gettinga different result that is better. The best teaching just like the best Sciencemedicine is a moving target. And so, the process of pursuing best practice isjust that a process, something fluid and dynamic that we should all try to stayactively involved with as much as we possibly can.
There is no other profession like teaching. It can be exciting, frustrating,exhilarating, tiring, rewarding, infuriating and fulfilling- all in one day!

Teachers must beprepared to work as part of a team, combining their efforts with their colleagues,supervisors, and parents to create the best possible learning environment for theirstudents. In addition, teachers must continually educate themselveslearningabout new advances in education, new technologies, and new ways to encouragetheir students to reach their full potential.
Teaching is really a noble profession. Every one of us, including ournations Presidents is the product of teaching.
The teacher is the one who molds a child into what he will be on the future.He is being taught how to read and how to write, how to deal with others and howto deal with himself. The knowledge of the teacher is being shared or transferredto the child from science, technology, arts and values. And when the child is readyto pursue for a higher degree of education and specialization, it is still the teacherwho is guiding the child for him to attain his dreams and expectations.
No other profession is greater than teaching. Without teacher, there will be
no Engineers who will plan, design and manage the construction of buildings,roads, bridges, communication facilities and other mechanical infrastructure.Doctors, scientists, politicians, etc, will not exist without the teacher and theteaching process.
