1DEFINITIONThe terms wearable technology, wearable devices, andwearables all refer to electronic technologies or computers that are incorporated into items of clothing and accessories which comfortably be worn on the body

Wearable computing facilitates a new form of human--computer interaction comprising a small body--worn computer (e.g. user--programmable device) that is always on and always ready and accessible

2HISTORY OF WEARABLE COMPUTINGIt was started by Steve mann in 1980s, who was a famous researcher and inventor renowned for his works on computational photography, high dynamic range imaging. The concept of wearable computing came into picture when watches were doubled into calculators. In 1981 a multimedia computer was designed to be worn as a backpack

3Consistency : The signal flows from human to computer and computer to human continuously to provide a constant user interface

Enhancement: The user will be doing something else along with computing i.e multi tasking

Privacy : As it is worn so it helps to develop a close synergy between human and computers.

Unrestrictive: Wearable devices enable a person to do multi tasking and do not restrict the focus of a person to one particular thing.

Convenient : Wearable technology is of utmost convenience to the user as the right person can use it at the right time and at the right place which offers a great comfort zone and helps to increase its overall utility

APPLICATIONS OF WEARABLE COMPUTING

MILITARY APPLICATIONOF WEARABLE COMPUTING

6Wearable computing was first introduced in 1989 in US army to assist soldiers in the battle fieldThis eventually grown into the concept called Land Warrior ProgramLWP is integrated fighting system for USA infantry soldiers which gives the soldiers enhanced practical awareness , lethality and survivabilityLWP consists of subsystems: Weapon subsystemIntegrated helmet assemblyProtective clothing and Individual equipmentRadio subsystemAPPLICATIONS

7Weapon subsystem provides range and direction information in all types of weather also at night , in conjunction to this the soldier can shoot without exposing himself to enemy fire

IHAS :helmet is mounted with computer and sensor display , he can view computer generated graphical data , digital maps , troop locations etc.

8PCIE : it consists of revolutionary back-pack frame design which bends with soldiers natural body movements

Radio subsystem : used for sending digital information and change frequencies

Lower portion of back-pack contains GPS and radio and GPS share the same display screen9

WEARABLE COMPUTING INFITNESS & WELLNESS

10The life tracker 1 is a fitness tracker in the form of a band.It uses the Android and iOS compatible app.It tracks a user's daily step count, distanced walked, calories burned, and sleep patterns. In addition, users can set activity goals, and alarms which coincide with their natural sleeping patterns.

The band encourages activity by gently vibrating when a user is inactive for too long, and displaying what percentage of their daily activity goal the user has completed

. Through the mobile app, users can share their results and goals with friends and family members also using the app.

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGYINHEALTH SECTOR

13The Withings Blood Pressure Monitor is a wearable technology worn on the arm .

It measures blood pressure and heart rate. It is Paired to an iOS device.

it tracks, saves and displays data that can then be used as a personal or medical health recorder.

Its results have scientific value: It has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA and is compliant with European medical device regulations.

It is also medically approved in Canada, Australia and New Zealand..

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY IN INFOTAINMENT

15SMART WATCHESThe SMART WATCH is a wearable gadget which keeps our hands free and yet allow us to use our smart phones , which might be at home, while we are away.

The idea of smart watches has been taken from the 1940s comic strip, DICK TRACY , who was a detective.

The first Smart watch was introduced in 2004.SMART WATCHES GIVES ACCESS TO:

GOOGLE GLASS18 Google Glass is a type of wearable technology with an optical head-mounted display (OHMD).

Google Glass is packed with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, speakers, a camera, microphone and touchpad. Then theres the main piece, a tiny screen the size of a finger, that shows all the information we need at our finger tips.GOOGLE GLASS

19Google Glass will make distance learning more fun, interactive and accessible.

Pilots use Google Glass to receive turn-by-turn directions to their destination or nearest airport.

Healthcare professionals could instantly locate and read patients medical records or test results with Google Glass.

When exploring for areas to drill, geologists could utilize wearable technology like Google Glass to get the geological data.APPLICATION OF GOOGLE GLASS IN DIFFERENT FIELDS

20ADVANTAGES OF WEARABLE COMPUTINGConsistentMulti-TaskingCommunicativeNo distractionPortable

21DISADVANTAGES OF WEARABLE COMPUTINGExpensiveHeavy to wearDiscomfort as these devices emit heat easilySecurity

22FUTURE SCOPE OF WEARABLE COMPUTING Medical field : can be used to show the information about the patient instead of looking up the patients file every time he/she comes in for a check up.even for training surgeons and any other medical personnel showing patient condition when the surgeon is operating on him/hera portable device which monitors the patient's heart rate or blood pressure and will automatically contact the doctor when the patient's readings are not satisfactory

In Military :hand held MTI which is a Moving Target Indicator that can detect movement even behind walls.

In entertainment field : wearable gloves or probably shoes will be introduced which will allow the user to fully move and manipulate objects in the game world.

The aim of wearable computing is to design wearable that are either very stylish or invisible.23
