By now it’s become clear:For all its wonders, thedigital age has alsointroduced its fair share ofchallenges. From socialmedia and cyberbullying tocybercrime, internetaddiction and onlineprivacy concerns, today’sstudents face a wide rangeof difficult issues thatprevious generations neverhad to think about.

As a result, teachers,school leaders and parentsare called on to add a

whole new idea to our curricula: digital citizenship(http://www.iste.org/resources/product?id=3197&utm_source=EdTekHub&utm_medium=Direct&utm_content=ONLDCApass&utm_campaign=OnlineCourses).

And yet, we don’t have to start from scratch. The elements of digitalcitizenship, it turns out, are not so different from the basic tenets oftraditional citizenship: Be kind, respectful and responsible, and just dothe right thing.

What’s new — for educators as well as students — is learning how toapply these ideals to the digital age. Just as all kids throughout thecenturies have needed help from their parents, teachers and mentors
