Note: Non-graduate students will be able to apply conditionally based on their 7-semester
CGPA. Candidates who fail to submit graduation certificates on the dates for final registration will
lose the right to register. Non-graduate students should write a petition letter and scan and upload

D-APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduation Requirements
a) To apply to a thesis master’s program, the candidates are required to hold a bachelor’s
degree awarded by a Turkish university or by foreign faculties or schools approved as equivalent
by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Council).
b) To apply to a PhD program, the candidates are required to hold a bachelor’s/master’s
degree awarded by a Turkish university or by foreign faculties or schools approved as equivalent
by YOK.
c) Non-graduate students will be able to apply conditionally based on their 7-semester
CGPA. Candidates who fail to submit graduation certificates on the dates for final registration will
lose the right to register.
2. Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES)
The candidates must have achieved a sufficient score in the Academic Personnel and
Graduate Studies Exam (ALES) or another equivalent exam as required for admission into the
relevant graduate program. Sufficient scores and score types are given in the quota table.
3. Foreign Language Proficiency
To apply to thesis master’s and PhD programs, candidates must have achieved a
satisfactory score in a centrally administered foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by the
Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM), as required by the relevant department, in any
of the following languages in addition to the applicant’s native language: English, German, French,
Italian, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Persian. Minimum score requirements
are given in the quota table.
4. Diploma Graduation Grade
a) There is no minimum requirement for graduation grade average (GGA) to apply to thesis
master’s programs.
b) There is no minimum requirement for graduation grade average (GGA) for candidates
applying to a PhD program with their master’s diplomas.
c) Candidates applying to a PhD program with their bachelor’s diplomas must have a
minimum graduation grade average (GGA) of 3.25 out of 4 or 85 out of 100 in a national
department of science or arts or one in a foreign country, which must be approved as equivalent
by YOK.
d) Candidates applying to a PhD program with their bachelor’s diplomas must have
achieved a minimum standard score of 80 in ALES exam in the relevant score type.
5. Application Requirements for Foreign Candidates
a) International applicants to thesis master’s programs are required to hold a bachelor’s
degree awarded by a Turkish university or by foreign faculties or schools approved as equivalent
by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Council).
b) International applicants to PhD programs are required to hold a bachelor’s/master’s
degree awarded by a Turkish university or by foreign faculties or schools approved as equivalent
by YOK.
c) International applicants to thesis master’s programs or PhD programs are not required to
present the result of ALES or any equivalent exam.
d) There is no requirement for graduation grade for foreign candidates.
e) Foreign candidates must have achieved a satisfactory score in a centrally administered
foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by the Student Selection and Placement Center
(OSYM), as required by the relevant department, in any of the following languages in addition to
the applicant’s native language: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Arabic,

f) Foreign candidates are required to present a Turkish language certificate awarded to them
by a Turkish Teaching Center (TÖMER) or by the Turkish language teaching centers in other
universities, showing that they are proficient enough in Turkish to participate in graduate studies.
Applicants not holding such certificate are required to take the Turkish proficiency exam.
E-DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION
Candidates apply online.
a) A copy of the diploma (bachelor’s diploma for thesis master’s programs and master’s
diploma for PhD programs) or graduation certificate. Both foreign and Turkish nationals who
graduated from higher education institutions abroad are required to present their diplomas or
graduation certificates along with equivalence certificates issued by YOK (Turkish Higher
Education Council).
b) The original document and a copy of their transcripts (bachelor’s transcript for thesis
master’s programs and master’s transcript for PhD programs). Both foreign and Turkish nationals
who graduated from higher education institutions abroad are also required to present a certified
Turkish translation of their transcripts.
c) ALES or an equivalent exam result. (ALES or equivalent exams’ results are valid for 5
years.)
d) UDS, KPDS, YDS, YÖKDİL or an equivalent exam result.
e) A 300-word essay explaining the reasons why the candidate is applying for graduate
education.
f) Application Form (to be completed online)
F- ASSESSMENT OF APPLICATIONS
a) Assessment and placement of the applicants is based on the score obtained by adding 50
percent of their ALES score, 20 percent of their graduation grade, and 30 percent of their interview
and/or written exam grade. The resulting score must be a minimum of 65 so that the applicant can
be included in the list of successful candidates.
b) Foreign students are assessed according to the results of the interview. A minimum score
of 65 is required for an applicant to be deemed successful.
Documents Required to Register in Thesis Master’s or Doctoral Programs
For Citizens of the Republic of Turkey:
a) Bachelor's diploma for final registration in master's programs and master's diploma or
graduation certificate (a copy approved by the issuing university) for final registration in doctoral
programs. Applicants who graduated from higher education institutions abroad are required to
present their diplomas or graduation certificates along with equivalence certificates issued by
Turkish Higher Education Council.
b) The original document and a copy of the transcript (bachelor’s transcript for thesis
master’s programs and master’s transcript for PhD programs). Applicants who graduated from
higher education institutions abroad are also required to present a certified Turkish translation of
their transcripts.
c) Original copy of the ALES or equivalent test score or internet print.
d) Original copy of ÜDS, KPDS or equivalent exam result or internet print.
e) Passport photos taken in the last six months (4.5 X6 Cm.) (2 copies)
f) A copy of the identity card
g) For Research Assistants, a document recently obtained from the relevant dean's office
indicating their status.
For Foreign Nationals:
a) A copy of the passport pages containing identity information should be brought along
with the original passport and approved by the institute secretariat.
b) A copy of the residence permit with study visa
c) The original and copy of the graduation certificate or diploma. Applicants who graduated
from higher education institutions abroad are required to present their diplomas or graduation
certificates along with equivalence certificates issued by Turkish Higher Education Council.
d) The original document or a notary-approved copy of the transcript (bachelor’s transcript
for thesis master’s programs and master’s transcript for PhD programs). Applicants who graduated
from higher education institutions abroad are also required to present a certified Turkish translation
of their transcripts.
e) A copy of the ALES, GRE or GMAT test results provided that they are submitted
together with the original.
f) A copy of the Turkish Language Teaching Center (TÖMER) certificate showing that the
student is proficient enough in Turkish to participate in graduate studies should be presented along
with the original certificate. Applicants not holding such certificate are required to take the Turkish
proficiency exam.
g) Passport photos taken in the last six months (4.5 X6 Cm.) (2 copies)
h) For Research Assistants, a document recently obtained from the relevant dean's office
indicating their status.
