The panel includes the DET appointed Reviewer (Victoria Triggs), the school Senior Education Improvement Leader (David Kilmartin), our School Council President (Vu Nguyen) and two challenge partners (Jeremy Blaney Principal of Thomastown East PS and Keren Barro Principal of Ashley park PS). It was a very busy day and the panel had the opportunity to hear from senior staff, visit several classrooms and see two presentations by our student leaders. The panel was very impressed by the presentations by our student leaders and particularly enjoyed listening to the heartfelt and honest answers from the leaders during the question session. The panel will be returning again this week on Wednesday 30 October and Friday 1 November to make more visits to classrooms, talk to more students and staff. They would also love to speak to some of our parents. It would be great if you could join us on Wednesday morning for our ‘Coffee and Chat’ session at 9:05am. An added bonus is we can share the finalised new school plans with you. Student Behaviour - Boys’ Toilets I was disappointed last with the behaviour of the senior students in boys’ toilets, with walls being written on and toilet paper being thrown around. This is not the behaviour we expect from students at LEPS and it certainly isn’t the behaviour which parents would find acceptable in the home. I encourage all parents to have conversations at home about how we show respect in the toilets. Afterall, more than one person needs to use the spaces and it is disappointing when the boys can not remember to show respect, cooperation, caring or their personal best for these shared spaces. I am also concerned about the number of trips some students seem to need to make to the toilet during class learning time. We have a half hour break at recess and a fifty minute break at lunch time which is plenty of time for students to go to the toilet. I would expect grade 3-6 students should be able to wait two hours during class time and go to the toilet during break times unless they have a serious medical condition which prevents this. Hopefully the grade 3-6 boys can show greater respect for our toilet facilities this week. Proud Principal Moments One of my highlights from last week was the maturity shown by our student leaders during the Review Validation Day on Tuesday when answering the questions from the panel. You were sensational and I felt very proud of you all! Well done to our junior students who displayed our school values last week while on their excursions. The Preps behaved wonderfully at Bundoora Farm even though they were very excited being on their first excursion. The Grade 1/2s were also sensational while on their excursion to Werribee Mansion even with the added challenge of the very hot weather on Thursday. Remember no school on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 November!

Step back so kids step up

As young people spend increasing amounts of time online, their social lives, and in turn, their social and emotional wellbeing, they become increasingly entrenched in the digital world. As they journey through adolescence in this permanently public landscape, dealing with the effects on self-esteem, friendship issues, self-worth and wellbeing can be challenging to say the least.

Join Martine Ogenthorpe, a technology expert who is an accredited speaker with the Office of the eSafety Commissioner, has a background in secondary education and a Masters in Counselling.

This webinar will look at how we can best equip our young people to thrive both online and in real life as they grow up immersed in online spaces.

1/2 excursion to Werribee Mansion

Kardia: On Thursday we went to Werribee Mansion. First, Steph’s class went to do the washing. We used the dolly, mangle and the iron. It was fun. Secondly, we went to the lake and saw some birds. Thirdly, we went inside the mansion. We went in the children’s room and played with all the toys.

Zara: I went to the Werribee Mansion. First, I did the washing. We washed and dried the clothes. Secondly, we went inside the mansion. There were a lot of stairs and rooms. After that we had lunch. Then we went to the farm and to the chicken pen. It was really fun!

Winston: First, we went to the laundry and grated the soap so we could wash the clothes. We used a washboard, dolly and ringer to get the clothes clean. After the laundry we went to relax in the shade by the lake and eat our lunch. After our break we went inside the mansion and met a lady called Mel. She was dressed as a servant and showed us around the mansion. At the end of the day we went to the farm and saw three carts.

1/2 excursion to Werribee Mansion

Malek: We went to the Werribee Mansion. We saw the farm buildings first. I also

saw a blacksmith. They made all the tools for the

farm. Then we went into the mansion. When we looked at

all the rooms we had to guess whether it was a lady’s or a gentleman’s room. We got them all

correct! Then we went to do the washing. We used a

ringer, dolly and iron.

Lalor East Primary School NEWSLETTER

This year we have adopted Compass as our reporting platform and it has proven to be a very effective way of quickly communicating student progress. Our next step is changing the way you receive your child’s report.

Lalor East Primary School has always provided paper copies of your child’s reports, however, all parents/guardians will now receive student reports through Compass.

We will no longer be sending home printed copies of your child’s report.

We are moving toward more efficient ways of communicating student growth and reports will be available and visible digitally. You may print your child’s reports at any time, if you wish. Compass is a secure portal where a history of your child’s reports from the beginning of 2019 will be available for you to view at any time. Furthermore, we are supporting the increasing engagement of parents in schooling and upcoming school events.

To view your child’s report you will need to enter your unique username and password to access Compass. Everybody should have received their Compass username and password, however, if you haven’t received one please speak to the office staff.

Moving forward, you will need to download your child’s reports before they finish their schooling at Lalor East Primary School so then you can access the report in future years.

If you have any further queries, please contact the school and we will answer your questions.

Our World

We have celebrated our cultures at OSHC this week, with our new and improved “Our Cultures” flag wall (it is still a work in progress). We painted with passion and learnt the significance and meaning of the flags and shields we were creating. Thank you to one child who taught us to say hi and goodbye in Croatian. Bok everyone!

Our creative hats were on too, the children made fabulous scratch arts and bookmarks, used recycled boxes to make castles and houses, and boogied to our favourite tunes in a game of Musical Colours. The sun was beaming on us (of course we are always sun smart) as we played tiggy on the playground and mastered our skills in cricket. We have future Australian Cricket legends at our school. 6! Wow! We learnt all about Pandas and our plants are still thriving too. Yay!

To register and book your child in our program, visit www.campaustralia.com.au and use the school finder on our homepage to search for Lalor East PS School. To secure a spot for your child, we always recommend making your bookings in advance. Or you can visit the service and speak to Natalie directly.
