EnglandThe St. David’s annual Christmas tree and Sunday school prize distribution will take place in the Protestant Hall on Wednesday next at 8 p.m. The children will reproduce the musical programme which excited such generous applause at the recent entertainment. The charge for admission to the general public will be 1/-.

St.Patrick’sRomanCatholicChurch

Judging from the good presentations being made, the successful preliminaries, and the energy of the ladies interested, the coming social on Boxing Night offers

to be a huge success. Warwick and neighbouring towns will be represented and we think Father Corrigan may look upon the whole affair, not only as a benefit to the cause but also a welcome to himself and his new parish. We wish him, and all concerned a happy Christmas and a bumper house.Mr. H. F. Barker, formerly of Pratten, will assist in the musical portion of the entertainment.

St.Andrew’sPresbyterianChurch

Our report in last Saturday’s issue of the induction of the Rev. D. R. Hamilton into the Allora Presbyterian charge was incomplete in so far as it contained no reference to the good work performed by

Mr. W. J. McKenzie, the church secretary. Mr. McKenzie is not sparing of effort, thorough and tactful. His arrangements in the carrying out of the function referred to could not have been bettered. No service will be conducted in St. Andrew’s on Christmas Day proper. The Rev. D. R. Hamilton will conduct services of a seasonal character on Sunday 24th December.

WesleyMethodistChurch

A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day by the Rev. J. R. Williams. The offering will be taken for the Queen Alexandra Home for Orphans – The Methodist orphanage at Coorparoo.

BAD JOKE OF THE WEEKJust a few days before Christmas, an honest

politician, a generous lawyer and Santa Claus were riding in the elevator of a very posh hotel.

When the doors opened they all noticed a $20 note lying on the floor. Which one picked it up?

Santa of course, because the other two don't exist!

WIRAC urges parents to supervise children properly at poolSouthern Downs Regional Council is reminding all parents that children under the age of 11 are not permitted to enter Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre without the active supervision of a person 16 years or older. The reminder comes as some parents continue to flaunt the rules of the recreation centre by dropping off unsupervised children as young as six.“It seems to happen every summer and out message to parents is your unsupervised children will not be given access and will be sent home,” said Centre Manager, Don Warrener. “On Saturday a mother dropped her six year old, eight year old and 11 year old at 8.15am to the pool before we even opened and left them there,” he said.“We tried to ring her without success so we called the police to take them home.“Yesterday four children came in for a swim and two were only six and eight years old, so we had them wait until their mother came in to supervise them.“In the interests of safety, you must be 11-years-old to swim by yourself and

children are not allowed entry unless they are under active supervision of a person 16 years or older,” Mr Warrener said.“There will be no exceptions and parents will be called to collect under age children from the pool.”As a member of the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia’s Keep Watch @ Public Pools program, the Warwick Indoor Recreation & Aquatic Centre is keen to promote the importance of adult supervision in preventing children from drowning.“Lack of direct supervision of a parent or carer while a child is in water has been the main factor in 70% of the drowning deaths at Public Pools,” Mr Warrener said.“As a parent you have a responsibility to look after your own children. Lifeguards do a great job of keeping pools safe but they are not babysitters.”“Children do not understand the hazards that water presents to them,” he added. “They have no real sense of danger and require a high level of supervision.“Parents or guardians should actively supervise their children at all times. As such, they should be dressed ready for action, including unexpected entry to a pool.”Mr Warrener made no apologies for WIRAC’s campaign to make parents and carers understand the dangers of leaving children unattended at a public pool.“It only takes a split second for a child to get into difficulty in the water, so give your child all your attention, stay close to them and keep watch to save lives,” he said.

AlloraGolfNotes11-12-11

Last Sunday saw 12 gallant members play in conditions that were not

favorable for your average golfer. The day was organised by Aarron Simpson and with prizes supplied for the foursome event. The day was cut short due to the weather but thanks goes to Aarron for the day. This Sunday will be the last chance to get your name up on the Monthly Medal board. Tee off will be at 12am. This will also coincide with our Christmas break up so everyone is welcome to play and attend the after party with nibbles provided. The prizes that were on offer for Aarrons foursome match have been donated for this week as a multi draw. So come and enjoy a leisurely afternoon with friends at the clubhouse. The Golf club AGM was held on Monday with everyone being reinstated into their roles from the year proceeding. President Lindsay May, Secretary Kev Harrison, Treasurer Max Bielefeld, Captain Anthony Bowe, Vice Captain Bill Murdoch. Thanks to all who attended the meeting and lets hope the year to come will be an even greater year for the Golf Club.Don’t forget your sand buckets and remember - to play is to live.
