Myth Respectful relationships education does not address violence against men

Fact Respectful relationships education is about building positive relationships for all young people Students are given the opportunity to explore emotions such as anger and frustration and develop non-violent problem solving strategies All secondary school students learn about and explore the relationship between gender and power and the way gender stereotypes and behaviours can lead to unhealthy relationships or coping strategies Primary school students are supported to learn new skills to build their confidence and resilience

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS

Last week in the library we helped to celebrate Harmony Week with displays and book collections celebrating the variety of cultures and diversity in our world today On Friday our focus was National Day Against Bullying and Violence Library leader Hyacinth joined some students at lunchtime to read some of the

many picture books focusing on the issue of bullying

We had some great new graphic novels arrive this week so keep an eye out for those These include a Geronimo Stilton Graphic Novel Dav Pilkeyrsquos CAT KID Comic Club ( for the DOG MAN lovers) and for the upper primary Sunny series by Jennifer and Matthew Holm A new Liz Pichon book (creator of the Tom Gates Series) ldquoShoe Warsrdquo is in so check that out if you love Tom Gates

For older students new books have arrived as well Here are some of them

Last week the Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Elective class and some MYCAL students went on the overnight hike to Federation Hut just below Mount Feathertop in the Victorian Alpine National Park The students were greeted with great hiking weather for both days not too hot and clear views The hike is about 20km round trip along the iconic Razorback Trail starting just off the Great Alpine Road near Mount Hotham Resort This was for most of the students their first ever overnight hiking experience The students had to organise their own food and personal gear for this trip Students learnt how to travel with a hiking pack how to cook with a Trangia stove as well as setting up a lightweight hiking tent This introductory hike was a great challenge for all the students that attended and they should all be proud of their achievements Clint Slotegraaf

Students have learned about Carnevale in Italy

They made their masks were shown videos

photos and discovered some of the cultural

significance that this celebration has in Italy We

looked at Carnevale in various Italian cities such

as Venice and Viareggio

This year we focused on Viareggio which its main

characteristic is given by the parade of floats and

masks usually made of paper-pulp depicting

caricatures of popular people such as politicians

showmen and sportsmen the parade is held on

Il Carnevale

Students have learned about Carnevale in Italy

They made their masks were shown videos

photos and discovered some of the cultural

significance that this celebration has in Italy We

looked at Carnevale in various Italian cities such

as Venice and Viareggio

This year we focused on Viareggio which its main

characteristic is given by the parade of floats and

masks usually made of paper-pulp depicting

caricatures of popular people such as politicians

showmen and sportsmen the parade is held on

the Viareggio avenue located in Tuscany
