ParexDavco (Singapore) has turned Eco-Friendly waterproofing up a notch, with the latest launch of Davco K10 PU ECO. This innovative waterproofing product uses the latest Polymer Technology. It is an environmentally friendly substitute for our existing Davco K10 PU waterproofing membrane with bituminous solvents in its formulation.

Product Launch : K10 PU ECO

Davco K10 PU ECO is a premium, water based waterproofing mem-brane that has low Volatile Organic Content and is approved under the Singapore Green Label Scheme. It has no tar, bitumen or solvents, making it safe for the applicator and residents and is ideal for use in small or confined areas.

Waterproofing contractors can look forward to getting their waterproofing installation done in a shorter time as Davco K10 PU ECO has fast curing properties and will not blister or stain.

Davco K10 PU ECO has high elongation to accommodate the movement stress in roof panels without affecting the integrity of the waterproofing, making it ideal for use on rooftops, where thermal movement stress is the highest.

All major waterproofing contractors in Singapore were invited for the product launch in February 2011. Conducted in our newly renovated Showroom/Training Centre, the “Trade-Night” featured a product demonstration to highlight the advantages of Davco K10 PU ECO.

Davco K10 PU ECO generated a lot of interest among our customers and our Technical Manager was kept busy addressing technical queries from waterproofing specialists.

PRODUCTS Chile

in 2008, Parex Chile launched a range of products aimed to provide waterproofing solutions to our general construction customers. Waterproofing, is being subcontracted primarily to specialized applicators who apply the products that have been listed by the Specifying Engineer. Specialized contractors are generally trained by the products’ manufacturer accordingly.

In order to penetrate this new segment, Parex Chile began identifying specialized waterproofing contractors and specifiers in focused segments of application, so as to promote and develop our waterproofing brand image in Chile. We position our company as part of the ParexGroup that has worldwide experience in waterproofing solutions. .

Parex Chile offer 3 waterproofing products sold under LANKO brand:

1. LANKO IMPER 222 (POWDER)

2. LANKO IMPER FLEX 228 (BI-COMPONENT POWDER & LIQUID ADDITIVE)

3. LANKO 596 (PASTE)

In Chile, bituminous sheet membranes are being used for roof and basement level waterproofing, a Liquid-Applied Asphalt Membrane for balconies of high rise buildings while wet areas are often applied with a two components Cementitious Membrane. Parex Chile have started to target the kitchens and bathrooms sector. Usually, waterproofing job contracts are separated from the tiling work and is subcontracted directly by the builder/ general contractor to a waterproofing applicator. However, the Specifying Engineer generally selects the materi-als to be used.

Competition is strong in this segment with companies like Sika who has a strong presence in the market. However, we believe that we can better position our offer by combining our tile adhesives & grouts with the waterproofing products as a coherent system which can provide more convenience and safety to the builder/ general contractor as well as to the subcontractors. PROJECT UPDATES

Waterproofing of hydroelectric plant’s water channel

Water supply to the hydroelectric plant in Galicia, northwest of Spain, flowing through a stone based water channel which runs more than 2 km long. Around 100 years old, this channel has been functioning without any repairs for the last 50 years . With leaks and run-water inlets surfacing, urgent repair works were needed for this channel. 221 LankoImper Capa Gruesa, a versatile and easy to use waterproofing mortar, was chosen for waterproofing the channel.

To assess the product performance, a trial mock up was conducted on-site. After cleaning the area with a high-pressure water jet spray, a mortar spraying machine was used to apply 221 LankoImper Capa Gruesa. The average thickness of the application was about 5 cm and steel meshes at the base of the channel were needed to compensate for shrinkage. After allowing for 21 days of curing, adhesion pull out tests performed on-site yielded good results and the repair of the entire 2 km of the channel started immediately.

Over 300 tons of 221 LankoImper Capa Gruesa were used for waterproofing of the 2 km long channel.

Tim McDonald, was the CEO of Mer-Kote Products Inc. before Parex’s takeover in 2006. He had been with Mer-Kote since 1976 when the product line primarily consisted of exterior waterproof coatings, membranes and interior seamless flooring.

In the early 1980s, Mer-Kote manufactured waterproofing membranes and thin-set mortars for the Rowley Lawrence partnership which was set up by former Laticrete sales representatives.

When Mer-Kote ( now called Merkcrete Systems ) acquired Rowtley Lawrence, Tim became VP of sales and took over the ceramic tile division. In 1995 Tim bought both Mer-Kote and MerKrete with his partner Pat Miller.

In his 35 years, Tim has helped pioneer both the waterproof and crack isolation membrane industry in the U.S. Merkrete developed some of the industry’s first latex based membrane for use in under tile and stone applications. Under Tim’s guidance, Merkrete developed many of the interior and the more challenging exterior applica-tions methods including flashings designs, duel membrane shower pan assemblies and the industry’s first stand alone exterior 3-ply membrane for tile applications over occupied space.

Tim is now the VP of Merkrete and has helped Parex Brasil launch its first liquid applied membrane for the Eliane brand.

Tim will be teaming up with Micheal Pattison on strategies for the development of the waterproofing segment within the ParexGroup.

.

October 2010, recruitment of Bradley Green, who had spent over 10 years devoloping waterproofing market in England with the JMH group has helped to strengthen the Parex UK team and was critical to the success of their strategy.

First thing on Bradley’s list was exploring the possibility to expand the waterproofing product range by leveraging on existing waterproofing expertise within the ParexGroup.

Bradley has reviewed the wide range of waterproofing products within the ParexGroup with the aim of identifying products which would suit the UK market.

For more information on this article, contact Mark ShorrockContact : [email protected]

His exploratory activities include:

1) Conducting a study of Mer-Kote products from ParexUSA, in particular their Shur Deck, Weather Deck and any other Polyurea/Polyurethanemembranes.There are also on-going discussions on Merkrete’s in-situ polyethylene membranes.

2) Liaising with ParexUSA and Materis Paints from Zolpan (France) on integrating their Ultrasol range of products into the Parex UK range. There is also an on-going study of other suitable products within their range for the UK market..

3) Working closely with Steven Keitley from Parex Renders to find ParexLanko products that might suit the UK market. Currently Parex UK has 228 Lankolastic in their range and are in the midst of working to secure a large project at Heathrow Airport.

4) Discussions with Giles Everett and Paul Fuller from Chryso to launch a waterproof concrete using Chryso admixtures and Parex UK water bars, membranes, coatings and repair mortars, with the aim of being the first manufacturer in the UK to offer a complete waterproofing envelope system for projects.

To bridge the product gap, Bradley is considering the feasibility of bringing in products from outside ParexGroup, such as Naue Bentofix, a clay based, cast in-situ membrane sealing barrier for gas/vapor in civil works and environmental applications. With such energy and other ParexGroup inter company product technology transfers., we look forward to seeing the water-proofing segment in Parex UK improving by leaps and bounds in the coming years.
