A NEW PERSPECTIVETamara L. Carmell
I’ve had a revelation! I’ll have to admit that it’s not the first one that I’ve had, and I’m praying that it won’t be my last one either. Sometimes we get these great, inspirational moments and then, over time, we forget what we’ve learned and go back to our old habits. I have come to learn that I have many things in my life that bug the bejeebers out of me. Honestly, from people who irritate me, to long lines at the grocery store and children who seem to have somehow lost their ears along with their socks! Sometimes life can seem so unbelievably frustrating! Now, tell me, what happens when we start to feel so frustrated and overwhelmed by life? We start to take it out on others around us, it’s a natural response. We’re ticked and society is gonna know about it! It’s a vicious cycle. We feel frustrated, we act frustrated, which only causes more frustration and we find that we are looking at the bonfire that we feel that life has created… and that’s where we’re wrong. Allow me to elaborate on this.Last month we were in a rush, and really, when aren’t we? It had been a long day, the kind where you drop everything that touches your hand. Things that should work, don’t. Rooms that should be clean, aren’t. You get the idea. Well, we were rushed to get out the door for an event at the school. The kids were lollygagging and we were going to be late. Finally, we

all make it into the van and all our tempers are ready to flare. To top it all off, I’m just so annoyed that I even have to go to the event because it’s been one of those days, and quite frankly, I don’t feel like it.
As we turn the corner, the stereo is playing my favourite song and we all sit in silence. All of a sudden, my two-year-old bursts into song! He’s singing along as best as he can at the top of his lungs, but for the most part he is only singing the last word of each line with some baby babble in between. It was hysterical and we all started to laugh. Suddenly, life didn’t seem so bad.
This provoked a thought in me; at what point do we adults forget that we were once kids? When kids are upset, it usually doesn’t last for long… show them a new toy or distract them with something and “click” off goes the “tude” and everyone is happy again. When was the last time we just burst out into song? Life has way too many challenges and it’s time that we take charge of them. How do we do this? Well, let’s face it, we can’t always change what is happening to us, but we can change how we deal with it. Taking a moment, or several, during the day to re-evaluate our attitudes is a healthy exercise for us all. Take a moment and turn on your favourite song, read a paragraph or two from your favourite book, or just sneak around the corner and watch your kids play. It doesn’t take much to change our mood if we can nip it in the bud. It’s like opening a window on a spring day; as you take a deep breath and breathe in the freshness of a new start, it’s then that you can carry on.
If we can all do this, can you imagine what a better place we’d live in? We’d also be teaching our children not to take out their frustrations on those around them. To roll with the punches, not throw them. What a valuable life lesson!

Coffee
Bill and Doug went into a diner that looked as though it had seen better days. As they slid in a booth, Bill wiped some crumbs from the seat. Then he took a napkin and wiped some moisture from the table.
The waitress came over and asked if they wanted some menus.
“No thanks,” said Doug. “I’ll just have a cup of black coffee.”
“I’ll have black coffee too,” Bill said. “And please make sure the cup is clean.”
The waitress shot him a nasty look. She turned and marched off into the kitchen. Two minutes later, she was back.
“Two cups of black coffee,” she announced. “Which one of you wanted the clean cup?”

Not-Too-Bright TruckersWhile driving along the back roads of a small town, two truckers came to an overpass with a sign that read CLEARANCE 11’3”. They got out and measured their rig, which was 12’4”. “What do you think?” one asked the other. The driver looked around carefully, then shifted into first. “Not a cop in sight. Let’s take a chance!”

3-year-old Jaida was watching TV with her Mom one day. “Mommy, what’s wrong with that lady?” Jaida asked.
“Oh, she’s sick because she needs a new kidney,” Mom told her.
Jaida was quiet for a moment, then said, “But why does she need a kidney? Won’t an “adult knee” do?
