So here we are. Issue #3 in the flesh. I never thought I would see #2 to be honest with you all. Running a zine is a lot like being a prize fighter, one minute you’re on top of your game, the next you catch a bad left hook and crumble like a tower of cards. I’m proud to be a part of this but the real thanks goes out to you the writer, photographer or shred-der. This modest publication would be nothing without all of you. So thanks everybody! This little zine fits in your back pocket. So take one, its’ free. Spread the message by word of hand. Whether you are an advertiser or reading this for the first time, you have just helped support an amature surfer, pro skater or artist hang in there, doing what they love. So really, when you support the TENTACLE mag you support creative passions through various mediums all over the globe. If you’ll have us, we’ll keep you entertained for a fourth issue and maybe beyond that. Once this gets back to me from the printers and distributed to each tentacle... I’m out! Goin’ south for a while in search of waves and sk8 expe-riences and hopefully some bangers or tall tales for the next one.

One night, my camera snapped some images of a demon that came from the mist. He came to claim the souls of the non-skating scathen who throw pennies and rocks into the bowl. His names closest translation from his forked tongue to ours is “Trashcan”. According to local fishermen, his ship fell under mutiny and went down in a black fog. Yet, his tarnished soul remains. Entangled between the world of the living and the world of the dead, Trashcan dwells. Every time the Ucluelet Peninsula is enshrouded in a black fog, the deepest, heaviest mist accumulates over the Bowl. Some nights Trashcan emerges to bang on a few tricks. It’s fucked I know, but that shit’s for real. Allow the photos to tell the rest of the story.

Geo slashing in Newport.

First barrel? At Victoria Beach at about age 7 on a sponge. I pulled into a little pit on my Morey 139 and got slammed into the sand. My leash wrapped around my neck 3 times and was hanging on my back. I came up stoked as hell.

First sponsor? My mom. She used to get me a tube of Nosecoat and a towel that had to last me all summer. The towel would be so crusty it could stand up by itself. I always lost it by like the third week or so and had to lay in the sand to dry all summer.

First trip to Canada? Vancouver Island, October 2010 for the Cold Water Classic. I was super stoked on the place. The tow-ins on my skim at Chesterman’s were all time! We had perfect little glassy peaks with a bald eagle in the tree overhead. The poutine was heavy though, it took me out. Talk about expando.

First movie you made? A skim video called Soulag in1993. My brother and I made it in my bedroom on a couple of VCR’s.

First class you failed? Ha ha, Spanish. Let’s just say the teacher and I didn’t see eye to eye.

Last hair cut? At least 5 years ago. I guess it’s about time.

Last barrel? The last good one has to be a few weeks ago. Damn! That’s not good is it? Wedge tends to fall asleep in the winter.

Last sponsor? Monkey Business skateboard products.

Last class you passed? Film Production. I got my BA at Long Beach State in 1999.

Last contest you entered? Have to be well over a year ago. Sometimes contests can be fun, but skimboarding doesn’t quite have a dream tour. It’s something I am working on though.

Last trip? South Africa for the Maloof Money Cup. The other side of the world basi-cally. Beautiful place. I had a great time hanging with the people there.

Last movie you made? A skim video by Tenth Street Bros this year called BTV - Bringing The Vibes. You can check out some clips on youtube.

Editors Note:On Geo’s trip to Tofino, we blasted fireworks over an RCMP cop convention from an empty beer box atop brave Mur-phy’s head. Do that in the US and the outcome could have been ugly, which by the way is a stupid fuckin idea from the get go. Don’t blast fireworks from any part of anybody, okay kids? How funny is it that his names Murphy? Darwin did’nt claim our dumb asses that day because we got lucky, so yah kids..bad. Go to Tenthstreetbros and order a couple of insane skim videos instead .

There is a special breed of people who end-lessly search for limited Nikes, collect Jordans and fill their closets with Adidas. These people are proud to be known as sneakerheads. Many have collected over a hundred pairs of shoes, but only a few of the thousands own a pair of Giav-eras.Designed by Chase Shiel (Tasma-

Nike Giaveras are a whole lot¬ of sneakers. Based on the original Nike Dunk High design and inspired by the Moon Boot, the Nike Gia-veras push the boundaries of size, design and style. Raised to 11-inches high, the Giaveras are some of the most exciting sneakers on the market.Each Nike Giaveras is handcrafted and is the product of its own unique design. To this date, only three pairs have been created: the ‘Banana’ Giaveras, the ‘Universe’ Giaveras and the ‘Kanga’ Giaveras. Each pair is hand-sewn by the designers and takes an average of three months to construct.The Banana Giaveras was the first creation of the series:“They were an experiment, a way for us to try anything we wanted and just have fun with the design,’’ says Sean Anderson, aka Bromunky, co-designer of the Nike Giaveras, “I am glad we pushed the boundaries right from the beginning with the Bananas, it was nice to have such creative freedom.’’ This creative freedom brought about unique features, such as two straps shaped like monkey arms that hug the back of the

shoe, and a tongue that peels like its namesake. Pleased by their results, Chase Sheil and Sean Anderson continued designing more shoes.The second addition to the series was the Universe Giavera, short for ‘balance of the universe’, a shoe that relies more on its hand-painted art than flashy colours. A dramatic change from the Ba-nana, the Universe has shooting stars instead of monkey arms. The primarily white shoe leaves room for paintings of planets, bubbles and birds, all hand-painted by Bromunky.The latest in the collection of Giaveras are the Kanga. The Kanga have an all Mustard suede upper, lined with real kangaroo fur and have 3.5-meters worth of Kangaroo Leather laces. The designers also wanted to find a more refined answer to the ‘cheap’ looking Velcro strap and plastic D-ring, so they replaced them with a button strap and metal D-Ring. The most interesting feature of the Kanga is the ‘exchangeable hand’ located at the back of the shoe. The exchangeable hand lets you undo the press-stud and change the colour of the Kanga from Mustard to Chocolate! Before you start looking to get your own pair, you had better be a credited DJ, MC or street artist, because these are the only people that Chase Shiel or Sean Anderson will create shoes for.

The Nike Giaveras are the official DJ Sneaker and are proudly worn by DJ Dameza, a member of Acumen VJ group.
