I continue to be impressed by the learning taking place at our school. K/1 and 1/2 are knee deep in their work around 'Living Things'. Both classes are observing the growth and change of tadpoles making an excellent topic for writing and discussion. Mapping and coordinates lessons have taken place for 3/4 students with the focus being on the use of an atlas and exploring maps of Australia. They've put their skills to the test creating their own treasure maps including coordinates and directions. I joined 5/6 class on Thursday afternoon for their Science and Technology experiment around structured adaptations. Students mimicked blubber using Copha (vegetable fat) and rubber gloves to act as artificial skin to protect their hand from freezing cold water. After writing a hypothesis on what they considered would happen and listing the variables they measured and recorded the temperature to ensure a 'fair test' was carried out. PBL Update PBL- Positive Behaviour for Learning is being implemented at our school to support the learning and wellbeing of all students. This is a whole school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate in which students can learn and develop. PBL is recommended by the Department of Education following successful implementation and pleasing results across many schools. This week we have some PBL homework for all families to complete. Today all students will bring home an 'x chart' to be completed and returned to school. The chart asks families four questions. Thinking about our school environment, what do we want? 1. How will our school feel? 2. How will our school sound? 3. How will our school look? 4. How will we act? This information will help us to determine a clear set of positive behaviours and school expectations according to our school context. We value all input and would greatly appreciate if all surveys were returned by the end of the week. P & C Reminder P&C AGM meeting this Thursday 3.30pm. Canteen Reminders Just a couple of reminders for canteen to help you and our volunteers: * Please write order on a paper lunch bag - the lunch order is put back in the bag and sometimes back into the pie warmer to keep it hot, not so good for plastic clip lock bags! * Family orders can be folded together and paid for as one total - no need to find the exact change for each child. * Change can be given - a 50c piece or $1 coin, for example, will be taped back to the lunch bag for your child. * Please remember to write BBQ or Tomato when you choose sauce. * A "lunch order" can be written just for a drink or icecream if keeping small coins safe is a concern. If ordering lunch is something new then please ask at the office for help. Our older students are great helpers and buddies and our canteen volunteers are all friendly. If you have a smaller child or a new student that would like a treat at lunch time but is a little nervous please ask them to take a friend to show them the way.

MNC Swimming On Thursday 27 February 2020, Caitlyn, Layla, Ivy & I

went to the Coffs Harbour Swimming Pool for the Zone

Swimming Carnival. I came 9th in the 100m freestyle,

11th in the 50m freestyle, 8th in the 50m breaststroke,

5th in the butterfly, 11th in the 50m backstroke and

9th in the IM. IM means you have to swim 50m each of

butterfly, backstroke, breaststoke & freestyle in that

order. Its very tiring and not many people can do it. The

turns are very hard and you can get disqualified, but

luckily I didn’t. I did two PB’s which stands for personal

best. One in the 50m butterfly & one in the 50m

freestyle. Zone was very hard but I had a great day

swimming. The best bit of the day for me was hanging

out with my friends and I got a few lollies afterwards.

Mikayla

We all had a great day and we tried our hardest in the relay but we didn’t get through to Regionals. We had to make it in the top three to go to the next level. The other relay teams were really fast and we had no chance of beating them. We still tried our hardest and enjoyed ourselves. We were all nervous at first but when we started swimming we were fine and we loved every bit of it. Our favourite part was when we were sitting on the grass before the relay having fun and eating lollies - except for Mikayla as she was swimming all day.

Hoppity Hop with Stage 1.

This term, as part of our Living Things unit of work, K-2 students have been able to witness the amazing process of metamorphosis with their very own eyes, as we were given a large batch of frog's eggs earlier in the year (many thanks to the Tarran family). We have seen them hatch from their eggs and watched them grow from tiny tadpoles to quite large tadpoles, and are now starting to see some back legs. We also inadvertently learned that the tadpoles grow and develop much quicker if they are kept in a sunny place! Students have also enjoyed reading books about frogs, doing multiple frog art projects and singing about frogs. As some of you may have seen K/1 also performed a very cute rendition of 'Tadpole Blues' at our assembly on Friday and I'm sure all would agree they did a wonderful job. You may even find out a bit more about frogs or see some of our fabulous art at the 1/2 assembly this coming Friday. We hope to see you there!

2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge starts today!

During Library lessons this week, all classes will be introduced to the Premier's Reading Challenge for 2020. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. Students in K-2 will complete the challenge at school with their class teachers. Students in 3-6 will be required to keep an individual online record of their reading. This can be found at www.premiersreadingchallenge.nsw.edu.au

Students will be given time at school to log books. Rules Each student must read a certain number of books to

Clean up Day

Clean Up Our School

Thank you to all students for their participation in Clean Up Schools Day on Friday 28 February.

Rubbish bags were supplied to the school and we managed to fill some of them. It was evident that our students are environmentally aware as just a little rubbish was found in our playground.

Well done all!
