There are millions of great books just waiting to be read. Reading a book is a delight because it allows you to escape to another world. That’s why books are so magical and wonderful! The magic and wonder of books is extraordinary as you can go from bored and tired to excited in an instant, losing yourself in a story with your favourite characters.
In books anything can happen. There is an endless number of topics that you can choose from – varying from fiction stories, to others dealing with real-life situations many children face like bullying, adoption and illness.
Books can also educate you and change your opinion about certain things… books can have as much of an effect on you as a real life experience.
Reading has so many benefits! It develops your imagination, increases your vocabulary and allows you to encounter mysteries far beyond your daily experiences. The magic and wonder of books is one of the most powerful forces in our world.
• What makes you happy? Books can be fun if you enjoy what you read. If you have a favourite hobby, look for books about that activity.
• Fact or Fiction? Some books are entirely made up and imagined. These are called fiction books - novels, short stories and fairytales are all examples of fiction. These books can transport you to another world.
• ask an expert Your school library is a great place to find books that you will love. Your librarian can help you find the right books for you.

BACK TO SCHOOL
STAYING SAFEStaying safe means you can have more fun! Getting
hurt is not. Carrying your school backpack or riding the bus to school comes with some responsibility.
Luckily, it's not hard to do. Keep reading and you'll learn some very important tips on how to remain safe.
Backpacks come in all sizes, colours, fabrics and shapes and help you express your own personal sense of style. And when used properly, they are
incredibly handy and organised.
Compared with shoulder bags, messenger bags, or satchels, backpacks are better because the strongest muscles in the body — the back and the abdominal muscles — support the weight of the packs. When worn
correctly, the weight in a backpack is evenly distributed across the body, and shoulder and neck injuries are less common.
Use both shoulder straps so you distribute the weight evenly. Wearing your backpack on only one shoulder may cause you to lean to one side. Adjust the straps, making sure they aren't too loose.
Stand up straight. If your backpack makes you hunch forward or lean to one side, you might be carrying too much weight or not using both shoulder straps.
Carry as few books as possible. If you can leave a few books behind, do so. Use your school lockers more and carry home only the books needed for homework or studying.
Pick up the backpack the right way to avoid back injuries. As with any heavy weight, one should bend at the knees and grab the pack with both hands when lifting a backpack to the shoulders.
Use all of the backpack's compartments. When packing, place heavier items such as books, closest to the centre of the back.

STAYING SAFE

if you are having problems putting your backpack on or taking it off, talk to your parents. also let your parents know immediately if you have any aches or pain in your back or arms.
Talk to your parents
For some of you the school day begins and ends with a trip on a school bus. here are some tips to ensure that you are safe when travelling to or from school.
Bus Safety
Talk to your parents
Getting on the school bus• When the bus arrives, stay
away from the wheels of the bus at all times
• Be sure the bus driver can see you and you can see the bus driver
• never walk behind the bus
• if you drop something near the bus, never try to pick it up first because the driver may not be able to see you
Behaviour on the bus• When on the bus, find a seat
and sit down
• never put your head, arms or hands out of the window
• keep aisles clear — never leave backpacks or other bags you are carrying blocking the way
• at your stop, wait for the bus to stop completely before getting up from your seat
Getting off the school bus• Be careful that your
backpack doesn't get caught on the rail or in the door
• after you exit the bus, never walk behind it
• if you have to cross the street in front of the bus, make sure the bus driver can see you
• Wait for a signal from the driver before beginning to cross
See how easy it is to be a safe passenger? Following these simple rules means you will be more protected during a bus trip — and have more fun!

Julia and Matthew have these questions for Ronald…
Jul ia is asking “what does the word volunteering mean?”Volunteering means spending some of your free time helping others. You may either volunteer to help other families or you can also volunteer to take care of animals, the environment or any other cause that you care about. Volunteering can also help you learn important stuff about yourself — like what kind of things you are best at and enjoy the most. A volunteer job can even help you decide what you want to do when you grow up.
“what should i do
in case of an emergency?”
The best way to handle an emergency is to remain
calm and stay in control. If you are going to be the one
making the emergency phone call, here is what to do:
• Take a deep breath to calm down a little.
• Dial 112. This is the common emergency telephone
number that can be dialed free of charge from any fixed or
mobile telephone in order to reach emergency services -
ambulance, fire and rescue or the police.
• Tell the operator there's an emergency.
• Say your name and where you are
(the exact address if you know it).
• Explain what happened. The operator will need all the
information you can provide, so give as many details as you can.
• Follow all of the operator's instructions carefully.
• Stay on the line until the operator says it is
OK to hang up.

Flying Angels
1. Draw a curved triangle on thick paper for the angel's dress and cut it out. cut two arms from the same paper too.
To make wings like these
angels, glue silver paper onto
the rectangle before you fold it
into a zigzag.
2. cut out hands and glue them on the arms. Glue one arm behind the dress and glue the other arm on top of the dress
3. cut a round head and some hair from paper. Glue the hair onto the head, then glue the head onto the dress.
4. Fold a rectangle of paper one way, then the other, to make a zigzag for the wing. then, cut off the end at an angle.
5. cut a piece of thread and tie a big knot in the middle of the zigzag. then, wrap tape around the end.
6. hold the wing against the dress, like this. Get someone to help you put a piece of tape across the wing to secure it.
7. Draw a face on your angel. then, cut out feet and glue them on the dress. Decorate the angel with paper and stickers.
