SOD vs SEED? We often get the question, should I sod it or should I seed it? The answer is easy --- just how patient are you? Sod provides you with an INSTANT LAWN. Lay it out today and enjoy it tomorrow - it’s that easy! For the more impatient folks out there, sod is the obvious answer. Besides being an instant solution, there is no right or wrong time to install sod. If Green Velvet can harvest it, you can successfully install sod throughout the entire year. If you’re honest with yourself in evaluating the true cost of seeding vs sodding, you will find that they are both approximately the same cost in the end!

SEED EARLY! Here in Ohio, grass seed must be planted between August 10th and September 30th to allow it time to mature before Winter. This is especially true when planting Turf Type Tall Fescue! A tough plant when mature, Tall Fescue is the “wimpiest” of all grass varieties for the first 6-9 months of its life after germination! For this reason, plant your Turf Type Tall Fescue as early as possible during this “Fall” planting season to allow it to mature before soil temperatures begin to decline and winter sets in.
