This years Altrincham Festival was a great success with over 20,000 people on the
showground on the day. This year we had the Viking Show and also a new event, The Altrincham Festival Music Stage. Every Thursday is Jolanga Sessions, a new open mic
night at The Green Room in Altrincham’s Goose Green. We met with organiser Tom Ainsworth for more info.
What made you want to organise a music night in Altrincham?
‘Me and some friends were chatting about wanting a local place to play or see live music and meet like minded musicians. After awhile we just decided that we should just run a night ourselves. We want it to be a
night for the musicians of the local area, everyone get involved in the night. The Green Room was the perfect venue for us as it is a stylish modern bar in a vibrant part of town. We had grown tired of playing to one man and his dog and wanted a place with atmosphere that stood out. Plus, Green Room have been putting on cheap drink offers and free food for everyone that comes down!’
The night has been running for some weeks now. How has it been so far?
I was a tad nervous at first that it would be empty with one man sitting in the corner. No dog. However it has turned out great so far. We didn’t expect anyone on the first night yet people still came and got involved. The idea is that everyone is welcome, whatever you play or whether you just fancy seeing live music for free. We have had bands on with great responses from the audience. Potentially, we want to have at least one featured artist set per week. So we are looking for artists and bands to get in touch for gigs. If people just turn up and play some songs as part of open mic, its possible we may ask them back for a full set in the future.
What would you say to someone who wants to get involved but has never played live before?
Come on down and see for yourself. We are all a friendly bunch and there is no pressure. Come down and watch other people and you will see how laid back we all are. we have a range of different musicians playing including a singer songwriter who had never played to anyone before, we couldn’t get them off stage after they had been up once! We also get many musicians who just like to turn up and jam with others. As I said, everyone is welcome, however it is a bar so bring your ID’s!

Sunday 13th November saw 1st Timperley Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and other youth
organisations, attending Timperley Methodist church.2 minutes silence was observed, before the various groups laid wreaths, and attended a short service inside the church.
Credit should be given to the youths who attended, who were a credit to themselves and their parents etc, Their behaviour and appearance was beyond reproach.
I think it important that young children are reminded of the sacrifices that have been made.These days more and more families have relatives or friends in the various armed forces and are respectful of the people who have died in armed conflict.
All too often I hear people say:I can’t be bothered with all that.I don’t do Politics or religionI don’t believe in war or glorifying it.
People I feel who say that, loose sight of the meaning of the whole thing.It has nothing to do with Politics or religion.It is about respecting the sacrifice’s made by people, usually very young people, who gave up their lives whilst attempting to make the world a better place to live in.
Should they have been there?People will have their own views on that.
Personally I have no real interest in either religion or politics, but I can and do respect the people who have died in various conflicts.It is one day a year. It usually only involves wearing a poppy and being quiet for 2 minutes.Is that asking too much?I think not.

Timperley celebrates its Young entrepreneursTwo Timperley lads, Aaron
Poole (aged 22) and Nathan Lloyd (aged 19), have teamed up together to start their own business called ‘Forever Green Gardening Service.’ The business aims to help people with basic garden maintenance at really competitive prices starting at just £10. Aaron said ‘We realised that jobs are few and far between at the moment, and both Nathan and I have just been laid off, so we thought we should just go for it and do something ourselves’.
Paul Huxley from the local charity G-Force agreed to
help the lads. Since starting, the business has grown from strength to strength. Paul said ‘ It is great to see two young people wanting to make their own way in life and supporting young people in doing this is what G-Force is all about’. The lads are using all the money earned to pay for driving lessons and save up to buy their own company van.
Timperley should be proud of these two young entrepreneurs.

The Friends of Moss Park GardensNovember is a month
for remembering and reflecting.
However, I don’t want to take you back to the time of the great wars, just two years to November 2009. At that time, the seed of an initiative was sewn to try and pull together a group of local residents who were committed to restoring the gardens on the corner of Moss Lane and Park Road.
The group, all 13 of them, met for the first time in January last year. They faced lots of challenges. They had no money to finance the restoration, no plants, no water or electricity on site and no compost material to improve the very poor condition of the soil. However, with their combined enthusiasm and ingenuity, all these challenges ( except the electricity ) have been overcome. The electricity challenge was an interesting one because at the back of the site is an electricity sub-station which has been supplying power to the locality for 60 years. Unfortunately, we can not “plug in” to it.
Local residents seem to agree that the gardens have been transformed despite the ravages of the last two severe winters. Thanks to a “Bring A Plant” day in March 2010, a grant of £1,000 from a charity and the unstinting support from two local Councillors and a local market gardener, the gardens today are unrecognisable from what they
were two years ago. Last year, we were entered for the North West In Bloom awards. There are five grades of awards and our efforts were rewarded with a Level 3 Developing Award.
Not content with that, further improvements were made and we hoped for a higher grade award this year. One of our group, Judie Collins, attended the North West In Bloom awards presentation day last month in Southport. Imagine her surprise and ours when we were awarded the top Grade 5 Outstanding Award. This was one of only 20 awarded in the North West out of over 400 entries. Joy unconfined !
Despite this, we believe as a group we can improve the gardens even further and

Aloe Vera For Optimum Health At some point in our lives we are all affected
by Cancer, whether it is ourselves or a member of our family or a friend. The treatment can be gruelling and it is hard watching someone we love undergoing treatment and coping with the side effects.
I would like to share one person’s journey with you and while Aloe Vera is not a cure it does help to alleviate some of the side effects of the treatment.
Sarah had Ovarian Cancer and had a total hysterectomy followed by 6 months Chemotherapy. She developed a secondary tumour and faced a further 6 months course of Chemotherapy. Sarah asked if she could use the Aloe Gelly. This was tested in the hospital laboratory and the results showed it was almost 100% pure and they were happy for her to use it. At the end of her treatment she did not have any burns irritation or dry skin. Her energy levels had improved no end thanks to drinking the Aloe Vera Gel.
