ISS Mission
To instill in students a positive attitude toward school that exemplifies honor, integrity, and respect for self and others.
ISS Parent Orientation Training
Optional for students and parents prior to starting ISS (In-School Suspension) assignment
Purpose ◦ Exchange information ◦ Clarify expectations
Contract ◦ Parent/guardian must sign the Parent Acknowledgement Form prior to the
student’s exit from the program ◦ Student must sign a contract agreeing to abide by all policies and procedures
set forth during the orientation and intake process

Your child has been referred to the CBISS program for the following offense(s): ◦ (See you child’s paperwork for their offense & start date)
Assignment: Depending on the offense, assignments are either 5-10 days.
Students can exit prior to day the last assigned day, by earning all of their required points and satisfactorily completing all of their assignments (This is at Administrative discretion, dependent on the offense and other factors)
Students who have not completed the program by the last
assigned day of enrollment may have additional consequences assigned, at administrative discretion.
Earn 230 points; and Complete all ISS assignments at a satisfactory
level of performance; No absence within the last 2 days of
attendance; and Signed Parent Acknowledgement form is on
file
The parent or guardian must notify the school by 8:00am on the day of an absence
A written excuse and relevant supporting documentation must be submitted within two school days of an absence for the absence to be excused
Students lose points for both excused and unexcused absences (Attendance is crucial to completion)
Discipline Management System ◦ ISS uses a level system designed to assist students in becoming
better decision-makers
Level System ◦ Students earn points for academic, behavior, and team
performance ◦ Students are ranked by the number of points they have earned ◦ Responsibility, privilege, and preference are always determined
by rank
Students who do not adhere to all requirements of the appearance and dress code will have points deducted from their overall balance
Students blatantly out of compliance with the dress and appearance code will not be permitted in ISS until the guardian brings appropriate clothing to the school
Repeated disregard for the rules concerning the appearance/dress code may result in additional consequences at administrative discretion.
Dress Code
Tennis shoes (no heels/boots/sandals) Khaki pants Collared shirt, buttoned appropriately, with no distracting logos Belt Shirts must be tucked in at all times Pants must be at the waist at all times No jewelry
What may I bring to class? ◦ Homework ◦ ID ◦ Lunch ◦ House keys ◦ Up to $5.00
Can I bring anything else? ◦ No, anything other than the above mentioned items will be considered
contraband
What if I bring something else?
• Any non-approved item held by a student will be confiscated and returned only to the parent
• ISS teachers and administrative staff are not responsible for the safeguarding of any contraband items confiscated from students
The ISS program operates on a compressed daily academic schedule.
While enrolled in ISS, students spend less time on academic work than they do in the regular classroom.
As such, it is imperative that you encourage your child to complete the ISS program as quickly as possible.
The ISS program teaches citizenship, self-discipline, responsibility, and a positive work ethic.
One way this is done is through service learning projects that enhance the school environment and directly benefit others.
40 minutes per day is scheduled for participation in these mandatory projects.
Point Sheet
◦ Your child will bring a point sheet home everyday
◦ Please review the point sheet and have your child return it the next day
◦ Your child will receive points for returning the signed point sheet, on time
Telephone Call
◦ You will receive a telephone call after school everyday
◦ The purpose of the call is to update you on the progress of your child and answer any specific questions you may have
◦ What is the telephone number to reach you at in the afternoon?
I agree to the following:
◦ I will encourage my child to follow the dress and appearance requirements of the program;
◦ I will notify the school if my child is absent;
◦ I will make myself available for a daily telephone call for an update on my child’s performance;
◦ I will review the daily point sheet with my child, sign the point sheet, and encourage my child to return it to the ISS teacher; and
◦ I understand that if my child does not complete the ISS program within the assigned time, my child may be subject to additional consequences.
Students who are assigned ISS are not allowed to attend after school activities except the following: ◦ Tutoring
◦ Detention Hall
◦ Thursday Class
◦ Zap
All students assigned ISS will report to the cafeteria upon arrival to the AMS campus on the morning assigned.
