As Catholics, we are called to love one another. We should be willing to step in to protect God’s children, our brothers and sisters, when they are in need. We are Knights. Our words and deeds are our sword; our faith is our shield. Love is patient, love is kind. During this month, let us try to reconcile with each other. Our country is divided right now. This country is historically Catholic. While we probably won’t face execution like St. Valentine, we may face ridicule or have people think us naïve. But we must show America and the world that we, Roman Catholics in America, can stand together in love of neighbor, love of country, and love of God. The Council is in need of a Program Director and a Culture of Life Director for the remainder of this Fraternal Year. If anyone is interested, please let Retention Chairman PGK Michael Colbourne or myself know. Thank you to PGK Lou Lind for hosting Soup Night. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend, but I understand it went very well. It’s getting colder out. They say that keeping busy and moving helps keep you warm! We have plenty of activities coming up. Keep an eye out on Facebook or come to one of our meetings for information.

to the Shrine on heavy volume visit days.

Duties would include welcoming visitors and assisting staff with any needs as they may arise.

As we approach the March for Life later this month, the Shrine is expecting thousands of visitors. So, while there will definitely

be an ongoing opportunity to sign up to be a volunteer, the Shrine is looking for its first group of volunteers to help on January

28 (and then on into the future on a regular basis).

Any interested council members are encouraged to please contact the DC State Church Director Victor David via email

([email protected]). Once volunteers are identified, there will be a very simple training that the Shrine's Pilgrimage

and Visitor Services staff will organize with volunteers.

Music Ministry Alive! 2017 Spaghetti Dinner & Concert Fundraiser

EVENT SUMMARY REPORT (Dec 15, 2016)

About the Event The Spaghetti Dinner and Concert fundraiser is the first fundraising event to raise money to decrease the cost of sending St. Ursula church’s young musicians to David Haas’ Music Ministry Alive! 2017 liturgical music workshop. There are about 4-5 high school members of St. Ursula Church’s Youth Band and two young adult members of St. Ursula Church’s Adult contemporary Band who are interested in attending the week-long workshop. Our goal is to raise enough money to cover (full or partial) the workshop tuition, $3,000 (for 6 people) by May 1, 2017. We would need another $3,000 for transportation for all 6 people. The dinner/concert occurred on October 29, 2016 at St. Ursula Church. The dinner was held in the Spiritual Center from 6-7:30 pm. Elisa Fosler with the Knights of Columbus (Bishop Sebastian Council # 5058 in Parkville) planned, cooked, and served the dinner. Dean C., a member of the Youth Band, provided pre-dinner piano music. Event Participants In addition to the young musicians who performed, several St. Ursula groups were involved in making the event successful: the Knights of Columbus (Bishop Sebastian Council # 5058), St. Ursula’s Adult Contemporary Choir (Danny B. and Shannon S. who sang during the performance of the David Haas songs), James Krauss (pianist and music director at St. Michael’s Overlea), Marie Harrison (pianist, Catholic University), Pastor Fr. Steve Hook (for continued support), Dean C. (Youth Band member), Michael Colbourne (KOC Family Activities Director), Cassandra Palmer (Youth Minister), Tanya Ray (St. Ursula’s MMA Fundraiser chair), and Tom Hoerl (St. Ursula’s MMA chairperson). Parishioners (older parishioners), family, and friends were involved as guests of the event. They purchased tickets and donated money to the young musicians. Event Beneficiaries The young musicians will benefit from the money raised: the 5 high school students and 1 young adult. The attendees benefitted as well. The attendees are so appreciative of the time and talents of these young musicians. Many were still talking about the event weeks later. Event Sponsors

Pizza Johns donated two large salads Shoppers Supermarket and BJs donated gift cards Anonymous covered the catering expenses
