WELCOME FROM THE PROGRAM LEADER

Mount Ridley P-12 College has a well-earned reputation of involvement in interschool

sport and has taken a step forward to develop an exclusive ‘Elite’ Program to further

develop the skills and knowledge of our high performing athletes. Our aim is to provide

students in the Elite Sports Program (ESP) with a pathway which leads them to success

both at the College and beyond. Personal success is a key value to the College and we

believe that academic performance flourishes when students are exposed to and

participate in enhancement and enrichment programs. Students involved in the program

are expected to be ‘Student Athletes.’ High expectations of academic success are

enforced to ensure our ‘Student Athletes’ reach their full potential in their curriculum

program as well as their sporting endeavours.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Elite Sports Program has been established to

nurture and develop the academic and sporting

potential of our students from Years 7 to 12.

physical, social, emotional and mental capacity as an

athlete and a student, building leadership,

interpersonal and communication skills. Students in

the Elite Sports Program have access to elite training

and conditioning allowing for a blend of academic

development and practical learning specific to their

selected sport.

AIMS OF THE PROGRAM

• To promote a culture of excellence with a focus on

academic, personal and sporting development and

performance through a range of programs

• To utilise student interests and passion around

sport as a vehicle to engage and promote lifelong

learning and connectedness to the College

• To assist students to develop advanced skills,

knowledge and in-depth understanding of

pathways that foster direct connections with the

sport industry beyond the College

• To provide students with exposure to the

requirements of an elite junior athlete by replicating

the high expectations of a professional

environment

• To develop students’ skills such as leadership,

communication and teamwork while enhancing

their wider knowledge of the various components

of the sporting industry.

WHO IS THE PROGRAM SUITED TO?

The Elite Sports Program is not appropriate for all

students. It is both rewarding and demanding, with

high expectations of elite behaviours and academic

success. The program is titled ‘Elite’ to help guide

students in becoming elite in all of their sporting and

academic pursuits. The program is designed to foster

development of junior aspiring athletes and is not

necessarily targeted at the most skilled individual, but

at those wanting to become a better sportsperson

holistically.

The Elite Sports Program suits a student who:

• Wants to be challenged with like-minded athletic

students

• Responds positively to high expectations and

being held accountable to the expectations of a

specialised program

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

Students complete the Strength and Conditioning aspect of the Elite Sports Program through our community

partnership with ACE Performance. ACE Performance are an industry leading team of specialist performance

coaches and allied heath professionals. ACE Performance strive to maximize the potential of every athlete through

a comprehensive, well designed program that develops all of the vital components necessary in achieving athletic

excellence. The fundamental components taught are strength, speed, power, agility, flexibility/mobility and

endurance. The Strength and Conditioning aspect of the program also dedicates a large proportion of time on

rehabilitation; focusing on educating students about injury prevention and recovery. Students complete formalised

fitness testing at the beginning of the year and then again at the end of every term to monitor and assess their

individual performance needs and to expose students to aspects of the elite training environment.

Students in Years 9 and 10 integrate Strength and Conditioning into their mainstream Physical Education sessions

and utilise curriculum time to complete additional training. Students will also have a rotation of morning sessions in

the Elite Performance Centre (EPC), completing their personal Strength and Conditioning Program. Students in the

Junior Athlete Development Program (Years 7 and 8) utilise their after school training time to train this aspect of

their development.
