IRWD's philosophy is that water istoo valuable to use only once and thatwe should maximize the use of recycledwater.
Because of this philosophy, IRWDhas been recognized as a leader in therecycled water industry for more than 40years. Recycled water makes up morethan 20 percent of IRWD’s total watersupply, reducing the need to importexpensive water and helping keep waterrates low.
Wastewater from the community iscollected and treated through a highlyregulated and controlled three-stepprocess at the Michelson WaterRecycling Plant (MWRP) in Irvine and atthe Los Alisos Water Recycling Plant inLake Forest.
Currently, these two treatment plantshave the combined capacity to produceapproximately 23 million gallons per dayof recycled water which can be usedimmediately or stored in any of the 16storage reservoirs for reuse later.This highly treated recycled water is

Inaugural Newsletter Tips on Becoming an IRWD VendorSuppliers who have not yet done business with IRWD should begin by
registering online and completing the Supplier Assessment InformationSheet located on the IRWD web site, www.irwd.com. On the front page ofour website, under IRWD QUICK LINKS, click on “how to do business withIRWD,” scroll down to "links,” click on New Supplier / Existing Supplier andfollow the instructions accordingly. You must also provide a copy of yourbusiness license and tax certificate (W9).
The IRWD Purchasing Department will process and review your submit-tal. Once the process is complete, you will be contacted and advised of thefinal status.
“Companies may receive e-mail notifications of bid opportunities andcan view public bid postings,” said Alex Aguilar, Purchasing Manager. “Wewant to make it as easy as possible for our vendors.”

The MWRP plant is currentlyproducing 18-million gallons of recy-cled water per day. In September2009, construction kicked off on thePhase 2 expansion of the plant toincrease production to 28-milliongallons of recycled water per day.Completion of the project is antici-pated by April 2012.
Steve Malloy, P.E.
IRWD’s Steve Malloy is a 31-year veteran ofthe District with many high-profile projects to hisname. His latest challenge is managing the $87-million expansion of the Michelson WaterRecycling Plant.
While Steve has been involved in so manyof IRWD’s major projects, the Michelson expan-sion is a highlight. He was originally hired to workon the plant’s expansion in 1979 - and now it’sfinally coming to fruition.
"The construction is running very smoothly,”Steve said. “The credit goes to our contractor'sexpertise, the construction management team'sthoroughness, and Operations staff willingness toassist the project be successful."
Bill Hanley, P.E.
Bill Hanley is Filanc’s project manager for theMichelson Water Recycling Plant expansion. Hehas spent nine and a half years with the companyand is resonsponsible for the success of the proj-ect, quality and owner relationship. He credits hisexpert work crew for the smooth-running of theproject to date: Project engineers Sean MacGregor,Abdiel Picazo, Jr., Glenn Schwenger and ChrisLudlow; Superintendent Henry Oast and AssistantSuperintendent Pat Wetzel. Especially receivingaccolades from Bill is the IRWD Operations team ofManager Mark Gingras and supervisors LesterBusald and Dave Hayden.
“It’s great to work with such a highly qualifiedand professional group,” Bill said. “We are pleasedthat the project is running five months ahead ofschedule.”
