Oh, how your garden grows! It's hard to miss the plant-life teeming from every corner of the building
these days. From the beautiful lawn to the planted flowers and vegetables. A special 'Thank You' to the Garden Committee, who maintains the raised garden! A shout out to Martha Bintliff for taking over the chairperson position this year! It’s beautiful all around the building with bird feeders, sunflowers & flowers which are bringing in birds of all kinds, bees & dragonflies everywhere you look. Great job everyone!!
CRAFT TIME!!Trying to stay cool & busy, we’ve done just that. Lot’s of these little
ones are buzzing around the garden & flowers keeping us company….. So why not, here’s what we’ve been up to. Drive thru & you will see these all around the grounds. A HUGE thank you to Jennifer & Rich for making the stands for us! Note: these dragonflies
were made from recycled materials including ceiling fan blades & porch

July at The MeadowsThere was all sorts of excitement around here in the month of July!
“Be the One Ministries” from House Church in Rogers came & shared with music. They were amazing! It was nice to see young adults
out spreading good cheer and so appreciated.

A-Mazing Olympian
Resident Christy Newhouse
whou
Christy Lynn Newhouse was born 12/10/1963 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was raised in Plano, Texas and spent much of her time with her grandparents which she adored. She went on to start her young adult years at Richland Jr College and then on to University of Texas Dallas, UTD.
Christy has 1 child & we’ve all heard that beautiful daughter’s name around here! Courtney! Courtney is married to Tanner Parker and live in Decatur. They are expecting their first baby in December. “My baby is gonna have a baby!” Christy is going to be a Grandma, Gigi, MiMi….she’s not sure on a title yet; but she’s busting at the seams!
She spent her years working, teaching preschool. Loving on 2 & 3 year olds & reassuring the parents that the toddlers would soon quit crying. Comforting the crying mom’s was a major part of teaching preschool too. When it came time for Courtney to be left at preschool, she never whimpered or shed a tear, off she went. Bittersweet, she’s such a brave & friendly young lady, that started very early! She learned that from her loving & gentle mother.
Christy has a love for animals! She melts in the presence of them! When asks about a favorite …. MOLLY! Molly rescued Christy after she lost her special peekapoo, Bonnie. That’s not how the story goes but I know she was heartbroken from loosing Bonnie… so Christy & Molly rescued each other!! Molly’s elderly owner had passed away & needed a home….along came Christy. That dalmation & her were buddies from day 1.
Memories… oh the good times! Weekend getaways to Jefferson, Texas with Tom to a ritzy little bed & breakfast and local favorite Shady Glade Café. Going to Deep Ellum in Dallas with Tom & his best friend Lyle. They went all the way to Ohio to a Big Foot conference. Oh and music, music & more music. Tom was in the music world & worked for professionals, the national acts. So many fun times to remember.
Christy is grateful for her friends here at The Meadows, it takes away some of the loneliness. Her advice to us all, “Tell the ones you love, how much you love them, life can change in a minute. Life turns on a dime.”
We are so happy to have Christy here with us, always willing to help any way
August BirthstoneThe peridot, August’s birthstone, is a stunning stone that ranges in
color from olive to lime green. The green color is due to the presence of iron. Stones with a brownish tint have higher levels of
iron. Peridot is one of the oldest known gemstones. Ancient Egyptians shaped them into beads. The Greeks used them to make
rings and pendants and believed the jewelry could ward off evil. The largest peridot ever found weighs 310 carats and belongs to the
Smithsonian Institution.
In the Good Ole’ Days In August 1932, the average annual income was $1,652. A new house cost $6,515, and a new car was $610. A gallon of milk cost 43 cents,
but you could get a gallon of gasoline for only 10 cents. In August 1990, the average annual income was $14,777. A new house cost $128,732, and a new car was $9,437. A gallon of milk
cost $2.15, but a gallon of gasoline was $1.08

The Dog Days of SummerThe “Dog Days” of summer last from July 3 to August
11. What are the Dog Days, exactly? The ancient origins of this common phrase might surprise you.
In ancient Greece and Rome, the Dog Days were believed to be a time of drought, bad luck, and unrest, when dogs and men alike would be driven mad by the extreme heat. Today, the phrase doesn’t conjure up such bad imagery. Instead, the Dog Days are associated purely with the time of summer’s peak temperatures and humidity.
This period of sweltering weather coincides with the year’s heliacal (meaning “at sunrise”) rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Majoris—the “Greater Dog”—which is where Sirius gets its canine nickname, as well as its official name, Alpha Canis Majoris. Not including our own Sun, Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
While officially the Dogs Days are almost over, please keep your walks outside short right now, during this August heat. Enjoy our air conditioning and the windows for the garden & wildlife view.
August Flower ~ GladiolusThe gladiolus, or ‘sword lily,’ represents
remembrance, calm, integrity, and infatuation.
Gladiolus indicates that the heart is being “pierced with love.”

Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.
