This and that… Our Pig Roast Luau held on September 6th was a great success with over 100 members enjoying the perfectly roasted pig, great music and fun tropical drinks. Thanks to all of our members who attended and supported this event! Special thanks to the roasting team who arrived at 5:00 a.m. to get porky on the spit: Todd Barry, Jack Barry, Jim McElroy, Jeffrey Reynolds, Julie Saimininkas and Der-rick Tomlinson. Thanks also to Peter Hart for manning the grills, and to Joann Murray and her son for helping with the serving. Thanks to the Events Committee for all their careful plan-ning and hard work: Cathy Barry, Caitlyn Bar-ry, Barbara Hedges, Jenn Hedges, Eileen Moore, Erin Mulcahy, Elizabeth O’Leary, Ann Purcell-Murray and Kathy Saimininkas. We’re already planning for next year’s roast! This event is not to be missed! Thanks to Theresa Doyle for planning the Tag Sale and Flea Market held on Saturday, Sep-tember 13th in the club’s parking lot. While the turnout was a bit lower than anticipated (possibly because rain was in the forecast), our vendors and bargain hunters enjoyed the event and those of us who helped Theresa had a ball! Thanks to Rick Breen for arriving at the ungodly hour of 5:30 a.m. to help organ-ize the vendors; Eileen Moore for coordinating the sales of coffee, donuts, burgers and hot dogs and for overseeing the grilling team of Kevin Benner and Stephen Miskell (who also provided a lot of laughs for the rest of us)! We are planning to hold this event again so start saving your unwanted treasures! If you’ve been down to the club recently, you most likely have seen the recent renovations of the restrooms off the pub. These renova-tions are the result of the vision of Director Stephen Miskell (owner of Galway Tiling LLC) and his willingness to share his talents with our club…Stephen did all the labor him-self at no charge! He even convinced his brother, Dave, to come from New York and plaster over the cinderblock walls…again at no charge to our club! Special thanks to Martin Geoghan, Terry Devanney, Dan O’Connell, Cathy Barry, Dave Miskell and Rich Christ who volunteered their time and talents to the project and to Sean Preston (Preston Pumb-ing, LLC) who gave us a great deal on the plumbing required to complete the project. In addition to all new tile walls and floors, we have installed beautiful granite counter tops, new stalls and new lighting in the ladies room. It’s absolutely gorgeous…all thanks to Ste-phen! I hope you all enjoy reading about the efforts of your fellow members in support of our club and the many projects and events that occur. I try to ensure that I don’t miss anyone but occasionally it happens. So here’s a big SHOUT OUT to Jenn Hedges, who volun-teered to be Chair of Club Entrances for the Greater Hartford Irish Music Festival! Please accept my apologies for the oversight!
