IQAC Activities (2017-18)
Significant Activities and Contributions made and accelerated by IQAC
FACULTY ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME
IQAC took initiative in conducting the annual Academic Retreat on 30th
June and 1st July
2017, which was a fitting platform for introspection and self-analysis for the teachers. The
programme was inaugurated by His Excellency Mar. Sebastian Adayenthrath, Auxiliary Bishop
of Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese. The four sessions of the programme refreshed and
provided the teachers with the vigour to embark on a new academic venture.
STUDENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME
A variety of student enrichment programmes were organized under the initiative of IQAC
The IQAC organized an orientation programme for the first year degree students. Rev. Fr.
Sabu Sabu Thomas, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English, Sacred Heart College, Thevara
delivered a motivational talk to initiate the students into a new phase of their life.
The IQAC took a major step to widen the scope of Add-On courses aiming at the all-
round development of the students. All the departments conduct a course in collaboration
with External experts in the field. The courses cover a wide range of topics from Digital
Branding to Graphic Designing to Training for Competitive Examinations
Under the initiative of IQAC, the dept of Commerce organized an orientation programme
on Trauma & Emergency Care in collaboration with Rotary Club of Cochin West and
Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi
The IQAC took initiative to organize a four day Finishing School training programme
titled “Employability Training” for MSW and MBA students
The department of Finance and Taxation in collaboration with IBPS conducted a session
on cracking interviews and competitive exams for the students
A three day street play training programme for the I MSW students. They were taken to
Snthwana Institute of Counseling and Psychotherapy, Kochi and Kusumagiri Mental
Health Centre and Welfare Services as a part of Agency Orientation Visit.
The Dept of Commerce organized a visit as a part of the Industrial Visit of the Final
Year B Com students
The IQAC successfully conducted the internal examinations and result analysis
ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR PARENTS
An orientation programme for the parents was conducted under the initiative of IQAC to
make them aware about effective parenting in the contemporary times
ADMINISTRATIVE PROGRAMMES
The IQAC took initiative in preparing the academic calendar for the year 2017-18
The IQAC was instrumental in coaxing the management to renovate the Principal’s
office, IQAC room, Conference Hall, Reception, Bookstore and Canteen
SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAMMES
The IQAC took initiative to organize various programmes for the cause of society
The AICUF unit of the college began the collection of old usable medicines and cloths to
support the poor. The members of AICUF visited the House of Providence at Vilangu
and distributed cloths collected to the inmates.
The department of Taxation, provided financial aids to the needy cancer patients
A blood donation drive was conducted on the World Blood Donation Day in
collaboration with Sunrise Hospital
The dept of English organized a talk on “My Boby, My Care: Health and Hygiene” by
Dr. Prema George, Chief Gynecologist, Carmel Hospital, Aluva for Girl’s Home
residents, Kakkanad

The teachers of dept of English took an orientation class for Anganvadi teachers
COMPETITIONS CONDUCTED
The IQAC steered the departments and associations of the college to conduct various
competitions
The Bharata Mata Institute of Management organized the annual inter-college
management fest X’lencia
The department of Commerce (SF) held a debate competition on ‘Nationwide
Implementation of GST
The department of English conducted Quiz, Spelling Bee, Read and Sketch contests as a
part of Reading Week
A debate competition was conducted by the department of Physics in collaboration with
IT club
The dept of Zoology conducts weekly quiz ‘Zooquest.’ The dept also conducted a
Population Quiz in connection with World Population Day
The dept of Chemistry organized an inter-collegiate Quiz competition in connection with
Ozone Day
The dept of English organized an arm-wrestling competition in connection Youth Day
The dept of Economics conducted an inter-departmental Freedom Quiz in connection
with Independence Day.
The dept of Physics conducted a power point presentation competition on Global
Warming

FESTIVALS AND VARIOUS DAYS OBSERVED
The IQAC initiated the celebration of various festivals and important days in the college
All the departments celebrated Onam with great zeal with an aim to foster unity in
society

with the performance of cultural programmes.

organizing an art and cultural fest ‘Aksharapacha.’ The event consisted of performance of
various traditional art forms of Kerala, talks by eminent writers and a book festival
The dept of English observed Reading Week by conducting various competitions
The World Environment Day was observed by various depts. of the college by
distributing fruit saplings, perfomance of skit, poster exhibition and organizing lectures
The dept of Social Work in collaboration with Kerala Social Safety Mission observed
World Elder Abuse Day on June 15th

Chingam 1 was celebrated by the dept of MSW by organizing the agricultural event

The dept of Hindi celebrated Hindi day by conducting various competitions
SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS AND EXHIBITIONS ORGANIZED

An extension lecture by Mr. Titto James (All India Institute of Logistics Management) on
Career Prospects in Logistics Management was conducted for the BCom Travel and
Tourism students on July 19th ,

A training programme on Alcohol and Substance Abuse: Effective Prevention Strategies
by Mr. Johnson J. Edayanmula (Director, ADIC, India) was organized by the Department
of Social Work
An exhibition cum sale of the handmade products prepared by the mentally challenged
patients and MSW intern students was held at OOLAMPARA Mental Health Centre
The department of Physics conducted a seminar on “New Directions on Magnetic
Recording.” Dr. Senoy Thomas, Assistant Professor, dept of Physics, CUSAT delivered
the talk
