Durable Membranes Offer High Permselectivity for Industrial Processes Sybron Chemicals Inc. manufactures IONAC ® brand heterogenous ion exchange membranes with strong acid cationic and strong base anionic functionality. These membranes, with their strongly ionized functionality yield high permselectivity for industrial processes. The combination of a very strong fabric base and a chemically stable binder yields a very tough membrane. Their high Mullen Burst Strength ratings will not degrade within their normal operating tempera- ture range. Ion exchange membranes are used in a variety of processing and waste treatment applications that include: Production of Periodic acid Recovery of metals from electroplating and metal finishing baths Recovery of pickle liquors Electrocoating for both anionic and cationic systems. IONAC ion exchange membranes come in two precut sheet sizes. In addition, our MA-7500 membrane comes in standard-size rolls 43 or 45 inches wide, in lengths up to 30 meters (see table below). The 3400 series membranes are available as a spe- cial order in sheet sizes up to 65 inches wide by 144 inches long. IONAC ion exchange membranes are furnished dry for ease of storage. The membranes should be stored in the shipping canister provided by Sybron Chemicals Inc., in a dry environment. They should be presoaked before use, following the instructions in the membrane preparation section, to obtain dimensional swelling. Typical Membrane Characteristics

Membranes should be prepared for service by following either method listed below. By doing so, you will help ensure a long useful life for your membrane material.

Method A: The membranes should be completely immersed in a solution that is typical in composition to theliquid contacting the membrane in the system. It is preferable that this liquid be at a temperature of up to butnot exceeding 55C to expedite equilibrium. Allow a contact time of 3 hours to ensure complete swelling.

Method B: As an alternative to equilibrating in the application liquor, the membrane can be soaked in awater or brine solution under the same temperature and time conditions as stated above.
