Global temperatures on land and in the upper ocean have been steadily increasing, with 2014 featuring as the warmest year on record. In light of the current and foreseen changes in the climate system due to human activities and the impacts of a warmer planet, it is imperative to undertake ambitious climate action at all the levels, from local to global, and with the contribution of all actors, Governments, the private sector and the Civil society. About the speaker: Bionote Michel Jarraud is Secretary - General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) since January 1st, 2004. Mr Jarraud is a scientist and a meteorologist with degrees from the prestigious French Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole de la Météorologie Nationale.
