Inves&ga&ng the Progressive Era! Historical Context: A staggering number of changes occurred in the late 19 th and early 20 th Centuries: railroads stretched from coast to coast, the American fron<er disappeared, immigra<on soared, ci<es swelled, and industry thrived. With these many changes came problems, and many people demanded that the government change with the <mes and solve these problems. During the Progressive Era, the government responded to this call. Some progressive changes resulted in more rights for American ci<zens, while others expanded the power of the federal government. Direc&ons: In this ac<vity, you will inves<gate some of these problems and learn how efforts by the Progressives helped to bring about resolu<ons. Using each document and the corresponding ques<ons, complete the chart shown on the next slide. Then use the informa<on from that chart to construct the essay explained at the end of the ac<vity.
