The department curriculum committee examines course syllabi proposed for the next semester.

Graduation requirement Courses: 24 credits minimum Research: A thesis with oral defense, publish at least
one article in a SCI/SSCI journal and one other article in a list of journals recognized by the dep.
Student supervision Currently we (TM area) have 70 Ph.D. students. Every year we recruit 12 Ph.D. students on average. Each professor can advise at most 2 new Ph.D. studen
ts, but not more than 7 in total.

Qualifications of new faculty
Hold a Ph.D. degree Has high potential research capability.
For those obtaining Ph.D. degree more than five years should have published at least three SSCI or SCI journal papers within recent five years.
For those obtaining Ph.D. degree less than five years are preferred to have SSCI or SCI journal papers.

5.3 Faculty evaluation (1/2)
Teaching Last year the average evaluation for all courses was
4.15 out of a scale 5, of which 70% have a rating of 4 or above.
Any course with an evaluation below 3 will be subject to review (for both course material and lectures), though it has not happened.
Every year the department recommend a lecturer to compete for Teaching award and Mentor award in the University. There has been 5 teachers received Teaching awards and 5 teachers received Mentor awards.
