Introduction to Microsoft Word
•Microsoft Word is the word processing software on your computer that allows you to:▫Create documents▫Create posters/flyers▫Convey information in a written form.
Introduction to Microsoft Word• Microsoft Word is divided
into different tabs, or also known as ribbons.
• Each ribbon has different groups, and each group has several buttons on them.
• The types of ribbons we will look at are:▫ Home▫ Insert▫ Design▫ Page Layout▫ Review
The Home Ribbon/Tab
•The first tab that is up is the Home tab.•The home tab consists of the following
groups:▫Clipboard – Paste, Cut, Copy, and Format
Painter buttons. ▫Font – these buttons change the color,
style, size, etc. of the letters you type. ▫Paragraph – these buttons set up the how
the wording looks on your document (center, bullets, numbers, etc).
The Home Ribbon/Tab
•The first tab that is up is the Home tab.•The home tab consists of the following
groups:▫Styles – creates different style of headings
for your words and sentences. ▫Editing – allows you to look for and replace
different words in your document.
The Insert Ribbon/Tab• The Insert tab allows you
to insert different items into your document you are creating.
• We will only look at the following groups:▫ Pages▫ Tables▫ Illustrations▫ Text
The Insert Ribbon/Tab•The Pages group creates cover pages, and
inserts blank pages or page breaks in your document.
•The Tables group adds tables to your document.•The Illustrations group adds visual graphics to
your document. These include:▫Pictures▫Clip Art from the Microsoft clip art gallery (now
called Online Pictures).▫Shapes▫Smart art
The Insert Ribbon/Tab
•The Illustrations group adds visual graphics to your document. These include:▫Charts
•The text group allows you to add text boxes, signatures, and date/time.
•The text group also allows you to add:Word Art
The Design/Page Layout Ribbon/Tabs
• The Page Layout/Design tabs assists you in setting up your page, creating columns, placing borders, etc.
• The two groups we will work with are the:▫ Page Setup▫ Page Background
The Design Ribbon/Tab
•The Page Background button has the Page Borders button.
•The Page Borders button allows you to customize a type of border around your document.
The Page Layout Ribbon/Tab
•The Page Setup has the following buttons:▫Margins button that sets the margins on
the edges of the document. ▫The orientation button that allows you to
change the way the document sits. The choices are: Portrait – document sits vertically. Landscape – document sits horizontally.
The Review Ribbon/Tab• The Review tab is where
we do a great deal of editing of the document.
• Here, we will focus on only one group, the Proofing group.
• In the Proofing group we will be using only one button, the Spelling and Grammar button.▫ Spelling and Grammar is
also known as Spell Check.
▫ This button allows you to correct any misspelled words on your document.
