Position

The Laptop Computer and ES3 Control/Processing Software replaces much of the hardware found in traditional multibeam heads. This concept makes the small size of the Sonar Head a reality.

Control commands and Raw data are exchanged between the Laptop and the Sonar Head through a 100 MB Ethernet Interface. Range and Angle data are also transmitted to the Acquisition PC through the network switch housed in the Power/Data Interface.

In addition, the PDI contains its own regulated and highly filtered DC to DC converter furnishing 24 VDC to the sonar head and accepting DC power input ranging from 9 VDC 30 VDC. This makes running the system from one “car battery” possible.

Motion Sensor

Motion (HRP)



Motion SensorWhen used with an Active Junction Box, DC Power, Heading, and Velocity data (NMEA VTG String) is provided to the motion sensor in order to aid its Heave solution. The industry standard, TSS-1 or Echo Sounder String includes values for Heave, Roll, and Pitch. The Roll data is used by the ES3 to provide real-time roll compensation. This eliminates the “scalloping” effect experienced with non roll compensated systems.

In the case of the motion sensor shown, mounting can be either vertical or horizontal depending on the requirements of the installation.

Easy To Use!

1. Lower the Probe into the water to the 1 meter mark and allow it’s internal temperature to stabilize.

2. Press the Power button and select Acquire. Press Enter again and the depth sensor will be calibrated for atmospheric pressure.

3. Press Enter again and lower the probe to the project depth and retrieve. You have now collected a velocity profile in the hand unit’s memory.

4. Either Review and Edit the stored profile on the hand unit or download the profile to a PC using the supplied software.

One Kilometer of the surveyed area near Pearlington, MS

The water body to the north is the beginning of the Stennis

Space Center canal system leading up to the locks. The in-coming

water body from the west is the East Pearl River that flows south from

Jackson. The blue in the north section depicts an area dredged after

Hurricane Katrina. The blue area at the river intersection shows an area scoured by the incoming water flow.
