Over the years, not many students

were dedicated souls and scholars of Rizal.

On June 12, 1956, the Congress of the Philippines passed the RIZAL LAW, REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1425 which awakened greater interest on matters about Rizal.

The Law provides that courses

on the life, works and writings of Rizal particularly his novels the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo shall be included in the curricula of all schools, colleges and universities.

It was in the mid-1950s when the Noli-Fili bill

was sponsored by Senator Laurel in the Senate with great help from Senator Recto.

The Senate was crowded with students like a bullfight arena.

College and high school students from Catholic schools noisily showed their opposition to the Noli-Fili bill.

The floor debates on the bill lasted for

several days. It was more than an education in history from Spanish to US administrations.

Laurel and Recto won the day for their bill making Rizal’s writings "must reading" in public and private schools to deliver their message of love of country.
