//Welcome to Intract
Our vision was to form a business that would not only open doors for Indigenous training and development, but deliver stable and long-term employment for Aboriginal people in contracting services across the mining and civil construction industries.
In 2010, the vision came to life and Intract was launched – a business formed through the partnership of The Aboriginal Foundation of South Australia (AFSA) and McMahon Services.
Intract has delivered on its mission to provide long-term employment and instil confidence into local Aboriginal communities through the provision of stable jobs, skills training, mentoring and support.
Achieving great success so far, Intract has provided over 24 Indigenous workers with valuable opportunities to join several large projects across Australia.
From rebuilding Aboriginal Wellbeing Centres across South Australia’s Native Title lands to securing our largest project to date, constructing Drill Leases at the Santos Mereenie Oil & Gas Fields, the Intract team has been hard at work, proving our strength within the industry.
Intract continues to focus on employing local Aboriginal people from surrounding homelands. As far as eagerness goes, we had one local Anagu man drive 450 kilometres to do his medical examination in Alice Springs. This shows just how far one will go to get the opportunity to work.
McMahon Services has a long history working with Aboriginal people from the APY Lands through to remote Indigenous communities across the Northern Territory. Through the development of Intract, we have continued our work and establishing meaningful relationships with Aboriginal communities.
The business was developed to help Aboriginal people ‘Walk a New Path’ and that’s exactly what we have achieved. Our simple business model of ‘train on the job – stay on the job’ is proving to be a great success. We now look forward to the next chapter of Intract and new opportunities for future growth.

Intract Indigenous Employment Program To further support training and development, the Intract Indigenous Employment Program was established, through funding from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). A civil construction “work ready” training and recruitment program was designed specifically for the initiative. Trainway were then engaged to coordinate a six week intensive program focusing on a selection of competency units from Certificate II in Civil Construction (RII20709).
Beyond the Employment Program Beyond the initial recruitment and induction phase, graduates are supported with on-going training and development. Our highly trained senior personnel provide mentoring, offering on-site support and assisting in skill development.
Intract also engages local facilitators in Indigenous communities to assist with preparing trainees for work. This includes organising medicals, facilitating inductions and providing an easily accessible point of contact.
