INTEROPERABILITY TO CREATE THE INTERNET OF
ENERGY
BMW GROUP ENERGY SERVICES
European Commission | BMW Group, Energy Services, J. Kolling | Brussels, 11.05.2017 Seite 2
THE FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE IN THE POWER INDUSTRY LEADS TO NEW CHALLENGES FOR BOTH ENERGY PROVIDERS AND CUSTOMERS.
•Renewable Energy is produced in
various decentral locations. It is
fluctuating.
•Energy offer can no longer correspond
directly to energy demand.
•Energy flexibility management is
needed.
Renewable Energy Network Charges rise Increasing Power Demand
Electrification of Mobility and Heat
affect the Power Grid.
Energy prices are subject to change
and might rise for consumers as well.
The Integration of Electrified Vehicles
and Heat Pumps only slightly increase
current energy demand.
But: Expensive Peak Loads may occur.

USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY. DECARBONIZATION IS ON ITS WAY.
• Integrated energy:
the markets for electricity, heat and
mobility
become one economic and physically
integrated market
• Vision:
the value creation happens in adjacent
markets, electricity becomes only a
complimentary product

BMW PROVIDES FOR GRID STABILITY THROUGH ELECTRIC MOBILITY AND CONNECTED STORAGE SOLUTIONS.
Expensive peak loads mitigated
by:
- Electric vehicles = mobile
storage
- extended stationary battery
storage
solutions
Electric Vehicle batteries and
stationary storage solutions
enable grid stability.
EVs are part of the solution,
not cause of a problem.
Additional Energy consumption
for
E-mobility could be covered by
locally produced Green Energy.

RELEVANT REGULATORY BASIS.
Electric Vehicles help stabilizing the
grid.
EV grid integration should be
incentivized
(i.e. exemption from electricity tax)
Safety First: Access to (Electric) Vehicle
data
only via Extended Vehicle Backend.
