IBM Research - China invites global candidates to apply for the 2016 Great Minds internship program located in Beijing and Shanghai. The Great Minds Program is an annual competitive two to six months internship. Selected students will have the unique opportunity to work with world-class scientists in an open and cultivating environment.

Great Minds

Relocation and Stipend

Interns will be paid a highly competitive stipend compared with other leading companies in China. Additionally, IBM Research - China will providecandidates with corresponding travel and living allowances. As reward, outstanding candidates with excellence internship performance will receive a one-year IEEE membership fee upon completion of their internships.

The exact starting time and duration of the internship will be agreed upon with each candidates individually. We will take into account the candidates' academic commitments and the availability of our IBM staffs.

We are seeking top talents in the area of Environmental Science, Renewables, Smarter Grid, Energy Efficiency, Operations Research, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, and especially in air pollution analytics, forecasting and simulations. Successful candidates will join the Green Horizon initiative to cooperate with China Government to address air pollution & energy issues. Candidates are expected to support global projects in environmental & energy research. They will work closely with a team of world-class scientists in areas of atmospheric science, environmental science, cognitive computing and statisticians.

1. Academic Requirements: The candidate must have a master or doctoral degree in Environmental Science, Energy & Utilities, Operations Research, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or related sciences from an accredited college or university; 2. This includes big data analytics, machine learning, data mining and their applications to achieve quality care and lowered medical costs. Our technologies have been applied to many applications to solve real-world problems in the healthcare domain.Our work include health risk prediction for chronic disease prevention, patient similarity and clustering for personalized treatment or care pathway analysisand mining for evidence-based care, through decision support tools to doctorsand patients.


As a Research Scientist at the Department of Cognitive Healthcare, your job will be to conduct research and develop big data analytics and cognitive computing methods for healthcare data, build data mining and machine learning models on real world clinical/behavior/genomic data, as well as to evaluate and improve the model performance.

1. We are looking for Ph.D. Candidates in Medical Informatics, Information Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related areas, with the following qualifications to strengthen our team;2. Cognitive Computing Platform: Our cognitive computing platform SuperVessel (http://www.ptopenlab.com) was developed by IBM Research – China to provide end-to-end services from modeling, training to API service. The research task of this position aims to explore and solve the technical challenges of deep learning, including the deep neurula network design, fine tuning, and optimization. Successful candidate for this vacancy needs to have a background in deep learning, be familiar with the popular deep learning framework such as Caffe, Torch, and/or Theano.
