2/3 of all Canadian mail, including ours, is routed through Toronto which was shut down by the union for several days.News reports mention more than 500 tractor trailers of unsorted mail awaiting processing.

Am currently holding all mail until the strike is resolved or until I am sure that it will actually be processed to its final destination.

Early notes drawn in Pounds Sterling are rarely seen. A very nice cross border item.FB46 - 9c green pays the required fee and is nicely cancelled with “Bank of Toronto, July 31, 1873” oval cds.

Some trivial edge faults as is to be expected on a 145 year old document.Rare document. Exceptional - $275 (±US$220)

1904 New Brunswick - Office of Registrar of Probate - Saint John, NB document.New Brunswick documents of any kind are Rare. Even modern documents are rarely seen.

One reason for the rarity was explained to me by a NB archivist many years ago. “Over the years New Brunswick has experienced a number of major floods including of court houses which resulted in the destruction of many documents. Apparently at one of the flooded court houses revenue stamps could be seen

floating everywhere.” This Rarity is offered on my website as stock #1869 at $395.00

1934 Weights & Measures “CERTIFICATE FOR THE TRADER” used at Hamilton, Ontario.The required inspection fee for a small 2 Pound scale of 25c is paid with the very scarce FWM60 - 5c black and FWM63 - 20c black.

Unusually clean and nice for this type of document - $45 (±US$36)


The Famous “Arthur A. Bartlett” letterhead.In the early 1900’s Mr. Bartlett and a number of others formed a consortium to purchase a large stock of PEI stamp remainders.

This fabulous letterhead was apparently printed in Germany and part of the watermark reads “FEIN” translates to FINE from german. The government tried to stop him from using the letterhead as they were afraid people would cut out the “stamps” and use them for postage. Eventually he was allowed to use up his

letterheads, but not allowed to have more printed. This one is Very Fine example and have seen them sell for as much as $100.$75 (±US$60)


Musgrove Business College stamps.This is the complete set 1c, 2c and 3c. The 1c and 2c are original gum hinged. The 3c is without gum.

28 different Canadian Tobacco Stamps - unused in pristine condition.These were only available to cigarette/tobacco manufacturers, importers, etc.

A manufacturing code with date code, etc. as shown on the 25 cigarettes stamp above was usually applied to the stamps before being affixed to the required package or box. Manufacturers never made these available to collectors. The government required

cash payment in advance for supplying the stamps. All unused without gum as issued. The only exception is the 1/16th lb SNUFF stamp which is mint never hinged. All in pristine condition. Quite a few are very scarce to rare,

e.g. the “2” overprint on cigar stamp (retail $35), 1/64th tobacco (retail $25). A number of these in this exceptional condition typically sell for as much as $5 to $10 each or more. Total retail if sold individually is over $250. The “Catalogue of the Federal
